Dara School is inviting applications for an experienced and enthusiastic School Support Officer to join our small and friendly team.
We are looking for someone who can provide a safe and secure environment to all students and role model a calm and consistent approach.
Someone who can build a rapport with very young learners.
Someone who approaches students compassionately, assisting with emotional regulation, including for students with additional learning needs.
School Support Officers are an essential part of our community and support our teaching staff in the classroom, on the playground, on excursions and in sporting activities.
Under direction they work with students in the classroom to allow them to engage with our curriculum.
School support staff work with our students from Reception currently to Year 7.
This position will be primarily in the lower primary school, working between Reception and Year 3.
This position is ideally three days a week, from 9am to 3pm, during school term times.
In addition to term time, the candidate will work for one week in the December/January holidays and one week in the mid year holidays.
Additional days within these parameters may be available for the right candidate.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
Working With Children Clearance
Hold a current satisfactory National Police Check
Hold a current First Aid Certificate
Must have, or be prepared to undertake, Responding to Risks of Harm Abuse and Neglect Training (RRHAN)
Evidence of prior experience as a School Support Officer or similar role
Demonstrated ability to build a rapport with students and engage students in learning
Demonstrated ability to support students with challenging behaviours compassionately, assisting with emotional regulation
Competent numeracy and literacy skills
Demonstrated ability to conduct respectful and professional relationships with the public and with colleagues, maintaining a calm and approachable manner
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively in a adaptable team focussed environment
Demonstrated ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
Organisational and time management skills
Commitment to maintaining and modelling Dara core values of Courage, Connection, Curiosity, Creativity and Compassion
Desirable
Experience in supporting students with ASD and ADHD
Experience in implementing teacher prepared strategies to support improved learning outcomes and student wellbeing
