About the Branch
The Parks & Gardens Branch is responsible for the care, management and operation of Sunshine Coast Council's extensive network of parks, public open spaces, recreational areas and landscaped environments.
Working across some of the region's most valued community assets, the branch maintains vibrant community spaces, preserves natural landscapes and enhances the liveability of the Sunshine Coast.
From horticulture and landscaping to plant operations and park improvements, our teams play a critical role in keeping the region beautiful, safe and welcoming.
Level 4 Opportunity:
As a
Parks Worker
, you will support the delivery of high-quality horticultural, landscaping and parks maintenance services across the Sunshine Coast.
From turf management and irrigation to planting and landscape upkeep, you'll play an important role in maintaining attractive, functional and protected public spaces.
This hands-on opportunity offers variety, teamwork and the satisfaction of seeing the positive impact of your work every day.
Perform horticultural and landscaping activities including planting, pruning, mulching, mowing, irrigation and turf management.
Assist with landscape construction, maintenance works and general park improvements.
Monitor and assess the condition of plants and landscaped areas, identifying maintenance needs.
Operate and maintain machinery and equipment safely while supporting a strong safety and customer service culture.
Level 5 Opportunity:
As a
Skilled Park Worker
,



you will undertake specialised plant operation and parks maintenance activities that support the efficient day-to-day delivery of parks, natural area, roadside vegetation and landscape improvement programs.
This hands-on role offers variety, responsibility and the opportunity to make a visible impact on the presentation, safety and sustainability of the Sunshine Coast's public spaces while working as part of a high-performing team.
Operate and maintain tractors, powered attachments and other approved plant and equipment to support parks and landscape maintenance.
Apply pesticides, fertilisers, fungicides and other treatments in accordance with maintenance programs and protected work procedures.
Contribute to the renovation and redevelopment of high-profile parks and public open spaces.
Provide on-the-job coaching and leading hand support while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
About you for the Level 4:
You have a Certificate II in Horticulture or relevant hands-on experience and are passionate about maintaining quality parks, gardens and community spaces.
You hold a White Card and bring practical skills in horticulture, landscaping, grounds maintenance or similar outdoor environments.
You enjoy working as part of a team, take pride in delivering high-quality outcomes and are committed to providing excellent service to the community.
You have a strong safety mindset, follow procedures and actively contribute to a positive, healthy and high-performing workplace culture.
About you for the Level 5:
You bring a Certificate III in Horticulture or equivalent practical experience, along with a genuine passion for maintaining high-quality parks, landscapes and community spaces.
You have experience operating a range of plant and turf maintenance equipment, supported by relevant plant licences and a strong understanding of efficient parks operations.
You are a collaborative team player who can work with limited supervision, communicate effectively and support others through on-the-job coaching and knowledge sharing.
You prioritise safety, understand risk management principles and take pride in delivering quality work while contributing to a positive and high-performing workplace culture.
Pre-Employment Medical Required (both levels)




Essential to your success is physical agility and the level of fitness, strength and dexterity to carry out labouring and frequent heavy lifting & bending.
As such, appointment to this position is subject to completion of a pre-employment medical assessment.

Recruitment Process
The recruitment process for the multiple positions currently available includes an Assessment Centre as part of the selection process.
