Job Description
Jay Bhavani Gungahlin brings the vibrant world of authentic Indian vegetarian cooking to the heart of the Gungahlin community.
Part of a much-loved name in Indian street food, our kitchen serves everything from lively street food classics such as Pav Bhaji, Vada Pav and chaats through to comforting staples like Masala Dosa and hearty traditional meals.
Every dish is prepared fresh using quality ingredients and time-honoured recipes, and we take real pride in offering our guests a warm welcome and a dining experience built on taste, tradition and quality.
As the restaurant continues to grow, we are seeking a capable and motivated Retail Manager to lead our team and take ownership of the day-to-day running of the business.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee the recruitment, induction and ongoing training of kitchen and front-of-house staff, prepare rosters and supervise daily performance so that service runs smoothly at all times
Manage opening and closing procedures and coordinate the flow of service between the kitchen and the counter during busy trading periods
Decide on the menu range and overall product offering, set appropriate stock levels for fresh produce, spices and packaged ingredients, and establish the standard of service expected across the restaurant
Serve customers at the counter and in the dining area, talk them through the menu, recommend dishes suited to their tastes and dietary preferences, and assist with takeaway and catering enquiries
Maintain a safe and hygienic workplace by upholding workplace health and safety requirements together with strict food safety and cleanliness standards
Establish purchasing arrangements with produce and grocery suppliers, put effective buying and promotional practices in place, and set menu prices that balance value for customers with profitability
Monitor food quality,



portioning and presentation so that every dish leaving the kitchen reflects the standards Jay Bhavani is known for
Prepare and manage budgets covering food costs, wages and overheads, and review trading results against targets on a regular basis
Promote the restaurant and its offerings through local advertising, social media activity, community events and seasonal or festival promotions
Keep accurate records of stock movements, daily takings and supplier invoices, and reconcile sales at the end of each trading day
Manage online ordering and delivery platform listings, keeping menus, pricing and availability up to date
Handle customer feedback and resolve any complaints promptly and professionally to protect the restaurant's reputation
Plan ahead for peak periods, including weekends, public holidays and Indian festival celebrations, adjusting stock, preparation and staffing accordingly
Liaise with suppliers on ordering schedules and deliveries, and manage wastage and portion control to keep costs in check
Skills and Experience
A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in a retail, hospitality or restaurant management role
An AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma
Personal Attributes
Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, guide and develop a team
Excellent communication and a genuinely customer-focused approach
Well organised, with the ability to juggle competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Sound judgement and practical problem-solving when handling day-to-day challenges
High attention to detail, particularly around quality, hygiene and record keeping
A positive, hands-on attitude and a willingness to lead by example
An appreciation of Indian cuisine and vegetarian cooking will be highly regarded
What We Offer The successful applicant will receive a salary of $75,000 to $80,000 plus superannuation per annum, along with the chance to lead a passionate team in a growing, community-focused restaurant.
