Our Next Team Leader - Library Services (Librarian)
Reporting to the Manager Economy and Growth, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality library services while demonstrating and promoting Council's core values.
You will play a key role in providing welcoming, accessible, and customer-focused library services that support literacy, lifelong learning, digital inclusion, and community connection.
You will also contribute to the planning, development, and delivery of library programs and services, maintain library collections and resources, and assist with reporting and administrative activities to support the ongoing success of the library service.
Key Responsibilities for this role include:
Planning for the delivery of high-quality library programs, services, information, resources and learning programs, that support learning, literacy, and social inclusion for community members and visitors.Manage the performance and conduct of the library services team to ensure delivery of quality library service.Development and review of policies and procedures,



which are consistent with 'best practice' library standards contained within the NSW Library Act ****.Effective and efficient financial management of the library services compliance with corporate accounting standards.Strategic and effective management of requirements and relationships with the State Library, peak bodies and professional organisationsEnsure equitable access to Council's library services particularly by potentially disadvantaged members of the communities within Gunnedah Shire.Overseeing cataloguing, acquisitioning, purchasing, and inter-library lending.
What You'll Bring to the Team
To qualify, you will need relevant tertiary qualifications in disciplines such as Information Studies or Library Science.
Additional key requirements for this position include:
Demonstrated ability and experience in program development and deliveryDemonstrated ability and experience in staff management and team leadership.Well-developed management skills and experience in developing and managing an operational budget.Highly developed oral and written communication skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution skills.Demonstrated commitment to and experience in customer service.Demonstrated experience in information technology and high-level personal computer skills focusing on the use of the Microsoft officeDemonstrated ability to implement the requirements of WHS and EEO legislation.Knowledge of Automated Library Booking Systems.Ability and continued commitment to work according to Councils' policies and Code of ConductCurrent valid NSW Class C Drivers Licence (ongoing employment is conditional on maintaining this Licence).
Employee grade Working with Children Check.
* While not required, desirable characteristics of a successful candidate could include:
Justice of the PeaceExperience in Local Government.Knowledge of the Libero Automated Library Management system.Experience in marketing and promoting a service using print, electronic media and social media platforms.Eligible for and interest in membership of the Australian Library and Information AssociationDemonstrated ability and experience in managing volunteers.
