What You Will Do As a Lawyer Within SASD
Conduct some independent work, and mostly supervised work.
Assist and seek input from senior team members.
Develop and maintain professional relationships at all levels within the ACCC to assist SASD to provide a responsive client service.




Provide strategic legal advice on the ACCC's functions and powers under relevant legislation (including the Competition and Consumer Act ****, the Telecommunications Act ****, the Digital ID Act ****, the Water Act ****).
Draft or settle compulsory information notices, undertakings, notifiable or legislative instruments, and other legal documents.
Provide legal input to statutory decisions such as merger assessments, authorisations and exemption decisions, public inquiry reports and guidance documents and other publications.
Provide legal (and legal policy) advice on law reform matters relevant to the ACCC's remit, powers or functions.
Conduct legal and related research into complex matters relevant to ACCC responsibilities under relevant legislation.
In some teams, assist with the conduct of investigations and the performance of the ACCC's compliance and enforcement functions, including advising on the use of statutory investigation powers.
In some teams, assist with the management of Court and Tribunal proceedings, including drafting or settling court documents (including pleadings and submissions) and other documents in support of litigation.
In CLU, provide legal advice on complex and/or high‐risk governance, employment, information‐handling, privacy, contract and procurement issues.
About You
Role
Admission as a practitioner, however described, of the High Court or the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory,



or the ability to become so admitted before commencing in the role.
Post‐admission legal experience (typically 1‐2 years (APS5) or at least 2 years (APS6) as a legal practitioner in the following areas relevant to the role(s) you are applying for:• Competition and consumer law enforcement functions and litigation• Merger assessment and exemption administrative decisions, competition law and litigation• Administrative decision‐making, regulatory, digital, competition, consumer or enforcement matters• Corporate law, corporate governance, employment, privacy, intellectual property
Note: experience of all areas is not required, but candidates must have a willingness to work across a range of matters.
Ability to work collaboratively and build stakeholder relationships.
Effective communication skills, including ability to deliver legal advice clearly.
Demonstrated ability to understand complex legal frameworks and/or adapt to new technical content.

Salary: Lawyer 1 (APS5) $98,616 (plus 15.4% superannuation)
Lawyer 1 (APS6) $102,947 - $115,384 (plus 15.4% superannuation)
