About us:
The Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service covers a large geographic area with a diverse and growing population.
The Health Service provides a wide range of primary care, acute and specialist services.

Cairns Hospital is the largest major hospital in Far North Queensland, caring for patients from the Mossman/Port Douglas to Tully in the south and out to Croydon in the west.
The Surgical Orthopaedic Assessment Unit (SOAU) aims to enhance the patient journey of surgical and orthopaedic patients within the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service by facilitating rapid assessment, early initiation of care and treatment, and identifying appropriate placement of inpatients within the surgical and orthopaedic wards.
Core business of the Surgical Orthopaedic Assessment Unit (SOAU)



is to provide excellence in multidisciplinary Surgical and Orthopaedic care to in scope patients requiring assessment, treatment, and minor procedures.
About your role:
Accountable for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care in collaboration with individuals, peers, and the healthcare team to achieve goals and positive health outcomes across the health continuum.
Demonstrate sound knowledge and application of relevant legislation, guidelines and standards specifically related to nursing clinical practices.
Your main tasks may include (but are not limited to):
• Direct patient cares – ADLs.
• Surgical drains/stomas/tracheostomy management.
• Patient education and complex discharge planning.
• Complex Trauma Care.
