Position Overview

The Hospice Primary Nurse works under the general direction of the Hospice Clinical Supervisor, the attending physician and the Hospice Medical Director, in the provision of skilled nursing assessment, planning and care to maximize the comfort and health of Hospice patients and families. All duties are in accordance with Singing River Health System procedures and policies, accreditation organization, and governing guidance and publications for health care employees. Shift

Monday‑Thursday, starting at 4:30 pm.

Location

Singing River Pascagoula Hospital.

Education

Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing. Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree preferred.

License

Current license by the Mississippi State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse or extended role.

Certifications

Must complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer. Must maintain annual certification requirements. Must have de‑escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days) and appropriate level of de‑escalation training.

Experience

A minimum of two (2) years’ experience as an RN within the past five (5) years preferred. One (1) year of experience in an acute care hospital, hospice, or home health setting preferred.

Reports To

Hospice Clinical Supervisor and Practice Administrator.

Supervises

Hospice Health Aides assigned.

Physical Demands

Work is moderately active: involves sitting with frequent requirements to move about the office, facility,



and travel to another facility within the SRHS service area. Work involves exerting a negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Exposure to body fluids, sputum and tissues may carry the hazard of infectious disease. Requires repetitive motions such as substantial movements of the wrists, hands, or fingers while operating standard office equipment such as a computer keyboard. Must be able to perceive the nature of sound at normal speaking levels with or without correction and adjust visual focus between a computer monitor and printed material. Must be able to be active for extended periods of time without undue fatigue and work schedules assigned with understanding that changes may be instituted according to hospital needs for off days, shifts, or weekends.

Mental Demands

Must demonstrate keen mental faculties, assessment and decision‑making abilities, superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels, and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Attention to detail, the ability to multi‑task in complex situations, maintaining cooperative relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations.

Special Demands

Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette, proficiency in computer use (keyboard proficient) and other office technology (telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook and Word. Must demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment for patients of all ages. Must have a valid driver license and satisfactory driving record; the position requires traveling throughout the SRHS service area with a personal vehicle that has liability insurance for hospice activity. Must report any accidents occurring during working hours. Must have working knowledge of hospice regulations.
