Senior Security Engineer - (Foundational Hire)

The Company

We're partnering with a leading global financial services organisation with a significant technology footprint and a highly engineering-led culture. The security function is responsible for protecting the firm's technology platforms, operational environments, and critical data assets. The Sydney team is continuing to grow as part of a global follow-the-sun security model, working closely with international engineering and security teams.

The Role

This is a foundational hire - you'll be the first person within the cyber engineering capability in Sydney, helping to build out the team's technical capability from the ground up. It's a genuine opportunity to shape how the function operates locally and to grow with the team as it scales.

We're looking for a generalist who can work confidently across multiple tools, platforms, and problem types - someone who brings broad exposure across security domains rather than deep expertise in just one.

What Matters Most: Attitude, Then Aptitude

We're prioritising attitude and ownership over ticking every technology box. If you haven't worked with a specific platform before, that's fine - what matters is your willingness to dig in, read the white paper, and figure it out. We're looking for someone who:

- Takes end-to-end ownership of technical components
- Is proactive and gets things done without needing to be chased
- Can learn on the job and pick up new tools and concepts quickly

Technical proficiency still matters - this isn't a trade-off against attitude, both count - but we're not expecting mastery of every tool in the stack from day one.

Key Responsibilities

- Act as a hands-on generalist across the security platform and tooling landscape, including network security, identity, endpoint,



and cloud security domains
- Maintain visibility and observability across the security platforms and solutions deployed across the environment
- Engage directly with business and technical stakeholders to solve problems pragmatically - security that enables the business, not one that slows it down
- Process security-related tickets and change requests, remediate vulnerabilities, and tune controls to balance protection with usability
- Support and contribute to identity platforms, including SSO/IAM technologies
- Contribute to the rollout of current security controls with a focus on operability, observability, and long-term maintainability
- Collaborate with the global team as part of a follow-the-sun security model

Experience & Background

- 5+ years’ experience in security engineering or infrastructure security.
- Strong hands-on experience across network security, identity, endpoint, and cloud security domains.
- Deep experience with network security technologies including firewalls, proxies, and SASE platforms.
- Experience with Okta or equivalent IAM/SSO technologies.
- Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and platform engineering experience highly regarded.
- Strong troubleshooting capability across hybrid infrastructure environments.
- Programming or scripting capability for automation and operational tooling.
