This is a 6‑month fixed‑term, part‑time (0.8 FTE) position commencing Term 3 2026 with possible extension and/or permanency. Australind Primary School has a proud 35‑year history and currently caters for approximately 180 students from Kindergarten to Year 6. The school offers specialist staff in Art, Physical Education, Japanese and Digital Technology, and provides instrumental music to selected Year 5 and 6 students. It is an independent public school with strong links to the adjacent Senior High School, a proactive parent and citizen group, and programmes such as School Volunteer Program, Kids Hope Australia, and Hands Up for Kids. The school chaplain supports families and coordinates a popular school breakfast program. Australind Primary School has adopted the “Choose Respect” initiative and maintains a culture of care and consideration. Its small size enables partners to know students well and to meet their individual needs.

Role Overview

The Gardener‑Handyperson is responsible for maintaining the school grounds in a safe and tidy condition, ensuring a conducive external learning environment for students and staff. Responsibilities include overseeing the upkeep of turf areas, garden beds, shrubs, trees, soft landscapes, hard landscaping features such as courts and paving, marking sports areas, and conducting minor repairs in line with departmental policies. The Gardener‑Handyperson also maintains gardening facilities, equipment, tools and machinery, ensuring they are clean and serviceable, reports faults promptly and adheres to safe work practices.

Key Skills and Knowledge

- Knowledge and experience in operating and maintaining bore systems, reticulation infrastructure and digital irrigation controllers.
- Ability to monitor, programme and maintain irrigation systems to ensure efficient and sustainable use of water resources.




- Experience or demonstrated interest in environmental education, sustainability programmes or the WasteSorted Schools initiative.

Safety and Risk Management

- Collaborate with the Manager of Corporate Services to develop safe work procedures and conduct risk assessments.
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) legislation and manage hazardous substances.
- Maintain records in accordance with safety guidelines.
