Overview
Senior Laboratory Technician (Nutrition and Dietetics) at Edith Cowan University in Joondalup, WA, AU. This is a full-time on-site position with a 0.9 FTE component for ongoing employment. Salary range is $87,004 – $96,681 (HEW 5) per annum (pro rata). Open to Australian or New Zealand citizens or Australian permanent residents.
School
The School of Medical and Health Sciences at ECU focuses on teaching and research in Medical and Biomedical Sciences, Allied Health, Exercise and Sports Sciences, Public, Occupational and Environmental Health. Our work supports solutions to key health issues in the community.
Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior Laboratory Technician, or an individual with a relevant degree or discipline-specific experience, to join our technical support team. The role delivers high-level laboratory and equipment advice and support services in both research and teaching laboratories and contributes to maintaining a safe laboratory environment for students and staff in Nutrition and Dietetics disciplines within Allied Health programs.
Responsibilities
- Provide high-level laboratory and equipment advice and support in research and teaching laboratories.
- Contribute to a safe laboratory environment for students and staff; assist with risk assessments and safety procedures as appropriate.
- Assist in preparing for laboratory sessions and maintaining equipment, particularly within Nutrition and Dietetics and related Allied Health disciplines.
About You / Qualifications
- Tertiary qualifications or equivalent expertise gained from relevant qualifications and experience.
- Demonstrable technical skills and experience in preparing for laboratory sessions and maintaining equipment, especially in Nutrition and Dietetics and/or Allied Health.
- Strong Occupational Safety and Health awareness with safe handling of hazardous substances and biological materials.
- Strong understanding of food safety standards, allergen management, and cross-contamination prevention.
- Ability to cook confidently and safely; ability to document procedures, risk assessments and guidelines for these activities.
- Ability to work across different discipline areas and adapt work hours to teaching class requirements.
- Excellent organisational, time management, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Experience in a food preparation workplace or as a nutritionist or dietitian would be highly regarded.
Additional Information
The roles are physically demanding due to regular movement of equipment and materials. This is not a biomedical position, but assistance to the biomedical discipline may occasionally be required.
