Job Description

What are the specifics of the role?

Victoria's landmark Youth Justice Act 2024 commences in full on 30 September 2026 and includes a number of youth justice reforms. We are aligning and supporting this through the creation of a new dedicated role - Youth Justice Victim Support Worker funded until 30 June 2028.

As a Youth Justice Support Worker based in Gippsland, you will respond to victims of violent crime, provide information and advice, assist them to navigate the justice system, and refer to specialist services as required.You will also deliver trauma-informed and victim-centred on-site and phone-based services for victims identified at the Children’s Court

Success will be achieved when victims feel empowered, receive a tailored service according to their goals and focused on their individual safety and recovery.





This is a newly created part time role (0.8 FTE – 30.4 hours per week) on a fixed term 2-year contract

Desired Skills and Experience

Key Selection Criteria

- Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Social Welfare or relevant equivalent
- Understanding of the youth justice system (including the Children’s Court), victim service system and relevant legislation.
- Experience working with victims of crime.
- Understanding of restorative justice theory and principles, including an understanding of group conferencing processes




- Ability to develop and maintain authentic and effectiverelationships with internal and external stakeholders to secure positive client and service system outcomes.
- Demonstratedexperience in traumainformedapproaches toassessment, referrals and victim support.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience within the community sector, preferably in a trauma related field.
- Risk identification and management capability, including confidence with the MARAM framework.
- Capability to engage in community engagement and education
- Ability to provide tailored support to victims of crime from diverse backgrounds and communities.
- Excellent ICT, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Willingnessto promote and support practices that are inclusive, culturally responsive, safe and accessible.
- CurrentVictorian Drivers’ Licence
- Willingnessto undertake relevant pre-employment screening and checks - including, Police Check, Pre-Employment Medical and Working with Children's check
- Rightto Work in Australia e.g. Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or visa holder with full working rights
