Graduate Environmental Scientists/Engineer

SGME is a specialist environmental and mining consultancy supporting clients across the mining and minerals sector. We deliver innovative and practical solutions across the full mine life cycle, including mine planning, operations, closure, rehabilitation, monitoring, and research.

We are seeking a motivated Graduate Environmental Scientist / Engineer to join our Brisbane team.

This role is ideally suited to an early-career professional with approximately 1–3 years of post-graduate work experience in environmental consulting, industry, government, or a related field.

Working alongside experienced scientists and engineers, you will contribute to a diverse range of projects across the mining, infrastructure, and land development sectors. You will gain hands-on experience in environmental assessments, field investigations, technical reporting, environmental management planning, mine rehabilitation, soil science, geochemistry, and mine closure.

Key responsibilities

Supporting environmental assessments, approvals and compliance activities across a range of projects

Assisting with soil, land capability and rehabilitation suitability assessments

Undertaking field investigations, environmental monitoring, sampling and site observations

Supporting geochemical investigations, data collection and interpretation of results

Managing, analysing and presenting environmental data to support project outcomes and decision-making

Assisting with mine rehabilitation and closure planning activities

Preparing technical reports, field notes, data summaries and environmental management documentation





Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver practical environmental solutions for clients

Building relationships with clients, stakeholders and project teams through effective communication and coordination

Developing technical skills through mentoring, training and hands-on project experience

About you

To be successful, you will have:

A degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline

Approximately 1–3 years of post-graduate professional experience in environmental consulting, industry, government, or a related field

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities

The ability to undertake fieldwork as required

Full Australian working rights

Experience in environmental assessments, soil science, geochemistry, mine rehabilitation, or land management will be highly regarded.
