Our client is an innovative Australian engineering company delivering advanced automation and robotics solutions to the mining industry. As their technology capabilities continue to grow, they are seeking a Mechatronics Systems Engineer to join their team and contribute to the design, development and deployment of intelligent engineering systems.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys working across software, electronics and mechanical systems while seeing projects through from concept to field deployment.
The Role Reporting to the Head of Technology, you will play a key role in developing automation and robotics solutions for mining applications. The role combines software development, mechatronics and systems integration with occasional travel to client and mine sites for commissioning, testing and technical support.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain software using Python and C++.
- Develop and integrate mechatronic systems including sensors, actuators, embedded devices and custom hardware.
- Support the development of robotics and automation systems for mining applications.
- Analyse system and sensor data to improve performance, reliability and operational efficiency.
- Integrate, test and troubleshoot automation, control systems and autonomous equipment.
- Collaborate with engineers, technicians and clients to deliver practical engineering solutions.
- Assist with installation, commissioning and field support at client sites.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will have a practical, hands-on engineering approach and enjoy working in a collaborative, fast-paced setting.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Experience developing software in Python and C++.
- Strong understanding of mechatronic systems and multidisciplinary integration.
- Knowledge of DC electrical systems, low-voltage controls and wiring diagrams.
- Experience with automation, robotics or industrial control systems.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
- Experience analysing engineering or sensor data.
- Familiarity with Git or similar version control systems.
- Ability to work effectively in both workshop and field environments.
Desirable
- Experience with ROS, autonomous systems or industrial robotics.
- Exposure to PLCs, microcontrollers or embedded systems.
- Previous experience in mining, heavy industry or industrial automation.
- Experience commissioning or supporting equipment in the field.
Qualifications
- Degree or Diploma in Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science or a related engineering discipline.
What's Required
- Current driver's licence.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to remote mine and industrial sites.
- Strong communication and technical documentation skills.
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with the ability to work both independently and within a small team.
