About us

Evolution Electrical is a family owned electrical contractor founded by Mat and Kathy Sakic in 2011. Fifteen years on we run three branches across Melbourne, a fleet of 20 vehicles, and a team we have largely trained ourselves. Mirrastone, Victoria's largest residential builder, named us their Professional Trade of the Year.

We are underground specialists. We take a job from the trench through to energisation, which is unusual in this industry and is the reason the work here does not get repetitive.

Let us deal with the data centres first

You have almost certainly seen the rates. Around ten per cent of the electrical industry in this state is now working on data centre construction, and advertised rates on those jobs run above what we pay. We are not going to pretend we match them, because we do not.

Here is the trade‑off, put plainly. Project work pays a premium because it is finite and because it needs a lot of people in a short window. It ends. It is also narrow, because on a job that size you do one part of the installation for months at a time.

What we are offering instead is permanent work with a business that has been here fifteen years, the whole scope of the trade rather than one slice of it, and a package worth more than the hourly rate makes it look. What the work actually is

Underground mains, consumer mains,



distributor connections, pits, conduit and pillar terminations.

Switchboard installation, upgrades and modifications in accordance with AS/NZS 3000.

Rough‑in and fit‑off across domestic, multi‑unit, commercial and industrial sites.

Fault finding and diagnostics where the answer is not on the drawing.

Testing, verification and lodging your own certificates of electrical safety before energisation.

How the role runs

You take carriage of the jobs allocated to you. You make the technical calls on site, you certify your own work, and you deal directly with the builder, the client and the other trades. You report to the Operations Supervisor at your branch, and you are not checked over the shoulder.

You will also bring apprentices through

Supervising and developing apprentices is a documented part of this position, not a favour you do when there is time. Roughly fifteen per cent of the role is teaching, and it is how this business has built most of its tradespeople. Energy Safe Victoria reports that about 40 per cent of Victorian electrical apprentices who start do not finish, and that ineffective supervision is one of the largest reasons why. If you have ever wanted the apprentice on your job to actually get their ticket, this is a place that resources it.

What you will bring





A current Victorian A-Grade Electrician's Licence.

A current Australian driver's licence, since you will have a company vehicle.

Experience working as a licensed electrician since you finished your apprenticeship.

A Construction Induction Card (White Card), or you will obtain one before you start.

Useful, but not deal breakers: underground mains or distributor connection experience, an Open Telecommunications Licence, an excavator ticket or an EWP licence, and experience bringing apprentices along. We care more about whether you take ownership of a job and close it out properly than about a perfect list of tickets.

What we offer

$40 to $50 per hour, set on what you can actually do, not on a formula.

Overtime paid at penalty rates in your pay, not banked as time off you never get to take.

A fully maintained company van and a fuel card. That is several thousand dollars a year you are not putting into a work ute, tyres, servicing and fuel, and it does not show up in anyone's hourly rate.

iPad and mobile phone supplied, and uniform and personal protective equipment supplied.

Permanent full time, a 38 hour week and 13 rostered days off a year.

Three branches across Melbourne, so there is usually a yard closer to home than you think.

Work across the full scope of the trade, so your skills stay current instead of narrowing.
