This is an exciting opportunity to join the newly established Southern Presbytery of the Uniting Church in Australia, formed through the coming together of four former presbyteries.
As Finance Manager, you will play a key leadership role in building strong financial foundations for the new organisation. You'll provide strategic financial advice, ensure sound governance and compliance, and support the stewardship of a diverse portfolio of assets, investments and funding that enable the mission and ministry of communities across southern New South Wales.
Working closely with Presbytery leadership, committees and congregations, you'll help ensure financial sustainability while supporting local communities to thrive.
About the role
Reporting to the Business Manager, you will be responsible for:
- Providing trusted financial advice to Presbytery leadership, committees and staff to support sound decision-making and long-term sustainability.
- Supporting congregations with financial management, helping build financially healthy and sustainable communities of faith.
- Preparing accurate monthly and annual financial reports, including balance sheets, profit and loss statements and cash flow reports.
- Monitoring and analysing financial performance to provide meaningful insights that inform planning and decision-making.
- Managing funding arrangements, ensuring grants are administered and acquitted in accordance with funding requirements.
- Leading the annual budgeting and forecasting process and supporting long-term financial planning.
- Supporting the Property and Finance Committee with financial analysis relating to property transactions, investment decisions and asset management.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant taxation,
accounting and regulatory requirements, including ATO, ACNC and Uniting Church policies and regulations.
- Coordinating the annual external audit process.
- Leading and supporting bookkeeping staff, promoting high standards of financial administration and continuous improvement.
- Contributing to projects and other initiatives as required.
About you
You are an experienced finance professional who combines strong technical capability with excellent relationship-building skills. You enjoy partnering with others, can explain financial information in practical terms, and are motivated by contributing to an organisation with a clear sense of purpose.
You'll bring:
- Demonstrated experience in financial management, reporting and budgeting.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and regulatory compliance.
- The ability to analyse financial information and provide practical, strategic advice.
- Experience managing audits and working within governance frameworks.
- Solid communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- A collaborative approach and commitment to continuous improvement.
