Communications Manager (9-month Parental Leave Contract)
The Cheesecake Shop is looking for a Communications Manager to join our marketing team on a 9-month fixed-term contract, covering parental leave. This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a hands-on, high-impact role at one of Australia and New Zealand's most loved bakery franchise brands, working across corporate communications, PR, and internal comms for a network of 260+ stores across Australia and New Zealand.
Reporting to the CMO, you'll be the voice behind how we tell our story: to media, to our franchise community, and to our people.
This role is a great fit for someone ready to step into their first people-management position. You'll oversee our social media and customer care functions, with two direct reports, and get genuine ownership and autonomy, with support from an experienced marketing leadership team behind you.
What you'll be doing
Leading external communications and media relations, including press releases, media enquiries, and reactive comms
Developing and executing PR strategies to support brand campaigns, NPD launches, and company milestones
Managing internal communications to keep our franchise network informed, aligned, and engaged
Acting as a key point of contact for corporate messaging, statements, and crisis/issues management as needed
Partnering closely with brand, digital, and franchise marketing teams to ensure consistent messaging across all channels
Managing key partnerships and influencer outreach, including our Make-A-Wish partnership,



to build brand affinity and community goodwill
Supporting executive communications, including talking points and briefing documents
Managing relationships with PR/media agency partners
Leading and mentoring two direct reports across social media and customer care, with guidance and support provided as you grow into the people‐leadership side of the role
What you'll bring
4+ years' experience in communications, PR, or corporate affairs, ideally in retail, FMCG, franchise, or hospitality
Robust writing skills with the ability to adapt tone across media, internal, and executive audiences
Experience managing media relationships and reactive/crisis communications
Confidence working autonomously and hitting the ground running in a fast-paced environment
Enthusiasm to step into management for the first time. We'll support you with coaching and mentoring along the way
