The South West Indigenous Network (SWIN) is a not-for-profit organisation which is dedicated to increasing the health, fitness and wellbeing of Indigenous communities in South West Queensland.SWIN was established in **** to provide targeted and cohesive sport, physical activity and recreation opportunities for the Indigenous people across the Darling Downs and South West.In that time, SWIN has built a strong suite of programs and events that provide opportunities for South West communities to engage, connect and participate in.
SWIN also maintains an active member base and delivers networking opportunities for sport and recreation professionals across the region.SWIN has the cultural knowledge, community networks and qualified framework to successfully connect community, business,
industry and government to achieve meaningful outcomes for the health and wellbeing of Indigenous people in South West Queensland.The RoleThe Sport and Recreation Officer is responsible for coordinating and delivering culturally appropriate sport, recreation and physical activity initiatives that improve participation, wellbeing and positive life outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across South-West Queensland.The role supports the objectives of the funded SWQ Sports and Pathways Coordination Project, which seeks to provide a platform to further engage disadvantaged people through sport and improve school retention, employment outcomes and diversion from the justice system.The Sport and Recreation Officer will work closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, young people, families, local sporting clubs, schools, community organisations, government agencies and regional partners to support accessible, culturally safe and community-led sport and recreation opportunities.
