Fairmont Medical Products is a leading Australian manufacturer of innovative medical devices, specialising in minimally invasive and critical care markets.
Operating since ****, we are one of Australia's only true end-to-end manufacturing medical companies, controlling the entire production and sales process and exporting to over 36 countries.
We are dedicated to improving patient outcomes through advanced technology and high-quality products.
We have an excellent opportunity for a talented Graduate Product Design Engineer to join our engineering team at our Dandenong South manufacturing facility.
We're especially keen to hear from recent graduates of Product Design, Product Design Engineering, Industrial Design or Mechanical Engineering programs who are looking to kick-start their career in medical device design.
The Role
This is a genuine launchpad role for someone who has just completed their degree and is ready to apply their studio and studies experience to real, market-released medical products.
You will work directly alongside our Managing Director, assisting in the design, development and improvement of innovative medical devices.
You will support current product development and existing product improvement projects across all phases — from concept or improvement brief through to a validated, market-ready product that complies with TGA requirements and the EU MDR.
This role offers exceptional exposure to medical device engineering in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment, with direct mentorship and hands‐on guidance from senior leadership, while you build competency across product design, manufacturing improvement, project support and regulatory compliance — no prior industry experience required,
just a strong design and engineering foundation and the drive to learn fast.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in new product development projects across all phases — concept, design, prototyping, validation, transfer to production and release.
Support the design, development and manufacturability of products in accordance with the company's Quality Manual and Design Standard Operating Procedures.
Create CAD drawings of proposed medical product designs using Solid Works.
Assist in building and testing prototypes to address a market need, helping validate function and suggesting design modifications to meet specific market needs.
Support reviews of existing products and components, helping identify design, material and process improvements that enhance production efficiency, waste reduction, aesthetics, cost or compliance.
Attend R&D; meetings, help maintain meeting minutes, and support assigned projects — tracking timelines, milestones and the product action items register alongside senior engineers.
Assist in creating and maintaining Design History Files and Device Technical Files in accordance with ISO *****, TGA requirements and the EU MDR.
Participate in change management activities, helping raise change reports for any change to product design, materials, manufacturing processes or controlled documentation.
About You
You've recently completed (or are about to complete) a Bachelor's degree in Product Design, Product Design Engineering, Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
Have a positive and collaborative approach — you're able to work closely with QA, production and R&D; colleagues, understand the value of active listening and welcome feedback, build good working relationships across the team, and stay adaptable and upbeat when priorities shift or challenges come up.
Strong foundation in mechanical design principles and proficiency in CAD software (Solid Works) developed through your coursework projects.
Understanding of manufacturing processes, injection molding, materials selection, and basic mechanical/electrical design.
Self‐motivated with strong critical thinking, problem‐solving, planning and prioritization skills.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications and engineering standards.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a friendly, enthusiastic and approachable manner.
Trustworthy, punctual, and aligned with FMP's core values of Integrity, Enthusiasm, Creativity and Responsibility.
Basic skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
What We Offer
Competitive graduate salary commensurate with qualifications.
A unique opportunity to work directly with, and learn from, our Managing Director.
Exposure to cutting‐edge medical device technology and advanced manufacturing processes.
Opportunities for professional growth, training and career advancement.
A supportive, collaborative and agile team environment.
