VAHS is also committed to assisting research into the ongoing needs of the community.VAHS is a child safe organisation.About the OpportunityAn Aboriginal Health Worker in the Koori Maternity Service supports Aboriginal women and families during pregnancy, birth and after the baby is born.
They provide culturally safe care, help women feel comfortable in the health system, and support communication with doctors and midwives.
Aboriginal Health Workers also offer emotional support, health education and advocate for families to make sure their cultural needs are respected.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide culturally safe support to Aboriginal and Torres Islander Women and families throughout pregnancy, birth and postnatal careConduct health assessments and screening, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander 715 health checksProvide health education (nutrition, breastfeeding, parenting, pregnancy care)Assist with administrative tasks for the Koori Maternity Services (KMS)Build trusting relationships with families and the community to ensure their needs and culture beliefs are respectedPre-RequisitesEssential:This position is only available to persons of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent (as permitted under The Victorian Equal Opportunity Act **** s12).
