About the role Flyingbark, a leading animation studio located in Sydney, New South Wales, is seeking a talented CG FX Artist to join our dynamic team.

If you thrive in a collaborative environment and are eager to push the boundaries of your craft.Key factsLocation: Sydney, New South WalesEngagement: Full-timeWhat you'll doCreate high-quality visual effects for animated projects, ensuring they align with the artistic vision of the studio.Collaborate closely with directors, animators, and other artists to develop and refine effects that enhance the narrative and emotional impact of the animation.Utilize industry-standard software to design, simulate, and render complex effects such as smoke, fire, water, and other natural phenomena.Participate in brainstorming sessions to generate creative ideas for effects that elevate the overall production quality.Troubleshoot and optimize effects to ensure they perform efficiently within the production pipeline.Maintain a consistent style and quality across all visual effects, adhering to the studio's guidelines and standards.Stay updated on the latest trends and technologies in visual effects to continually improve your skills and the studio's output.Provide constructive feedback to junior artists and assist in their development when needed.Document processes and techniques to create a knowledge base for the team.Engage in regular reviews and critiques to ensure alignment with project goals and timelines.Work under tight deadlines while maintaining a high level of creativity and attention to detail.Contribute to a positive and collaborative team culture, fostering an environment of creativity and innovation.RequirementsA minimum of 3 years of experience in visual effects production, preferably within the animation industry.Proficiency in industry-standard software such as Houdini, Maya, and Nuke.Strong understanding of particle systems, fluid dynamics, and other simulation techniques.A solid portfolio showcasing a range of visual effects work, demonstrating creativity and technical skill.Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate ideas clearly and collaborate effectively with team members.Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to overcoming challenges in the production process.Nice to haveExperience with Unreal Engine or other real-time rendering engines.Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python or MEL to automate tasks and streamline workflows.Previous experience working on animated feature films or series.Knowledge of compositing techniques and color grading.A passion for storytelling and an understanding of how visual effects contribute to narrative development.Skills & toolsProficient in Houdini, Maya, Nuke, and other relevant software.Strong artistic skills with a keen eye for detail and aesthetics.Familiarity with rendering engines such as Arnold or Redshift.Understanding of animation principles and how they apply to visual effects.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks efficiently.Practical notesThis position is based in Sydney, New South Wales, and requires full-time engagement.The salary for this role will be competitive and commensurate with experience.Candidates must be eligible to work in Australia; visa sponsorship may be available for the right candidate.
