Are you a seasoned veterinary nurse, with a strong background in the veterinary industry?
This nursing role is fairly unique - dermatology and otology is one of the most compelling, complex, unusual, and niche elements of the veterinary profession.
You'll be supporting some of the loveliest, most dedicated clients you've met, and their beautiful furry friends.
Our clients are generally clients for life - their pet's conditions are mostly needing our support for their entire life, so you get to know the clients and their pets very well and that familiarity makes the work more enjoyable.
The role is approx 20% consult nursing, and 20% surgical nursing, the rest of the work includes reception work, stock ordering and cleaning.
Some of the consultation nursing tasks: collecting bloods, animal restraint, placing IV cannulas for sedation during consultations and setting up video-otoscopy equipment.
You'll be training our lovely clients on how to administer treatments to achieve the excellent results we are known for.
Drug ordering, stock inventory is a part of this role.
The surgical nursing tasks - preparing dogs and cats for sedations and otoscopy (ear scopes).
Assisting with intradermal skin allergy testing and video-otoscopy of dog and cat ears.
And then there are some classic "back of house" parts to the role: these form a small-moderate but important component, and include stock ordering/inventory, in-house compounding of medications, cleaning and keeping the place tidy.
Strong reception/administrative experience is also required - the staff all need to be competent at reception.
Reception roles can be seen as less important roles within the practice, but within most veterinary practices, receptionists are the hub of the practice and are vital to keep things running smoothly.
This isn't your average reception and nursing role — you'll be providing admin and nursing support for our busy practice,



trusted to keep everything running smoothly, independently, and to a high standard.
We're looking for someone ideally with 3 or more of professional experience, who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys sole-charge responsibility, and takes real pride in being the steady, reliable support a busy clinic depends on.
If you have less experience, but the right attitude, then we can provide extra training.
This role offers variety, responsibility, and meaningful work — all without weekend hours.
Salary range advertised is for a permanent employee, not casual.
The salary is negotiable, depending on your skills and experience and what you can bring to the team.
What You'll Be Doing:
Consulting nursing - assisting vets in consultations to restrain, take blood, treat animal's wounds.
Video-otoscopy of dogs during consultations.
Training clients on how to treat wounds, clean ears, inject their animals and perform other treatments to get us excellent results at home.
Making sure clients are comfortable, making them and yourself a coffee.
Building rapport with clients and having a chat, getting to know them.
Surgical nursing - 20% of the role - sedations for skin biopsies and skin allergy tests.
General anaesthetics for scopes and soft tissue surgeries.
Setting up for and running fairly standard general anaesthetics.
Inventory management - keeping the pharmacy and other areas of the clinic stocked up.
Ordering allergy vaccines, ordering compounding ingredients that we stock.
Tidying and re-stocking the surgery and consultation rooms, keeping the place clean and tidy and maintaining order out the back.
Reception assisting - some time in your day assisting reception will be required - things get quite busy out there and it would be helpful to delegate a few key reception/admin roles to the nurse to help with this.
General clinic cleaning after the visits and end of day, all areas.
About You:
Ideally 3 or more years of professional work experience,



including 2-3+ years in a vet or animal-related reception/admin role.

A natural ability to stay calm and prioritize in a busy environment
A reputation for reliability, initiative and professionalism
Strong communication and multitasking skills
MUST have veterinary practice experience.
This is vital.
Desirable skills we need in you:
Nursing experience, admin experience, reception experience, leadership experience.
We we'll help you to understand our particular systems, in surgeries and procedures, but do expect a base level understanding and competency in surgical and anaesthetic nursing, and an understanding and fluent knowledge of inventory for veterinary clinics and how to do stock ordering and preparation of medications.
Reception experience is very helpful also.
This is a role that definitely requires reception work, so if you do not wish to do work on reception, please do not apply.

Pay rate:
We are looking to employ a permanent employee, not a casual employee, and thus your income would be based on permanent hourly rates plus entitlements plus superannuation.
The hourly pay rate is not for a casual position.
The pay rate depends on your experience, and what you can contribute to our team, and may be a provisional rate initially whilst we establish your experience and suitability for the role.
The permanent pay rate we are offering would be in the range of $31 to $34 per hour + 12% superannuation + entitlements (annual leave, sick/personal leave etc. as per the award requirements) We are looking to hire a permanent employee, so this pay rate is not a casual pay rate.
It is a permanent pay rate.
