We operate across industries including heavy vehicles, defence, rail, aerospace, agriculture, buses/coaches, medical and special purpose vehicles.AME Systems applies rigorous industry standards across its operations, including AS**** and ISO ****, and operates from modern facilities in Ararat (Head Office and Manufacturing), Melbourne, and Malaysia.The OpportunityAME Systems is seeking a Design Engineer – Wiring Harnesses to join our engineering team.The successful candidate will contribute to the design and delivery of robust, manufacturable wiring harness solutions that meet customer, regulatory, and internal quality requirements.Graduates may be considered for this position subject to qualifications and experience.Role PurposeThe Design Engineer is responsible for the development, documentation, and support of wiring harness designs across diverse customer platforms.Graduate engineers will be supported by senior engineers, while experienced engineers will take greater ownership of designs from concept through release.Key ResponsibilitiesCore ResponsibilitiesCreate detailed wiring harness designs, and schematics; define wiring harness components to meet customer requirementsUse Siemens Capital to author harness designs and generate manufacturing documentationInterpret customer specifications and applicable industry standardsCollaborate with production, quality, test,
and supply chain teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and meet all customer requirementsSupport continuous improvement and issue resolution activitiesContribute to digitisation projects to implement digital twins and digital threads across our customer baseMaintain engineering documentation in accordance with AME Systems' quality systemComply with all workplace health and safety requirementsAdditional ResponsibilitiesEnd-to-end ownership of harness designs from concept through releaseDefine connectors, terminals, seals, splices, protective coverings, and other componentsDevelop Java-based automation or rules to improve design quality and efficiencyLead DFM/DFT activities and support in-process and end-of-line testing strategiesManage design baselines, options/variants, and engineering change activitiesEngage directly with customers and external stakeholdersApply structured problem-solving methods (e.g. 8D, 5 Whys, FMEA)Selection CriteriaDegree qualification in Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, or a closely related disciplineStrong analytical and problem-solving capabilityHigh attention to detailEffective written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work collaboratively in a cross-functional engineering and manufacturing environmentExperienced-Level RequirementsDemonstrated experience in wiring harness design and developmentProficiency with eCAD harness tools, preferably Siemens CapitalStrong understanding of harness components, manufacturability, EMC basics, and environmental considerationsJava programming skills for automation, reporting, or design rule enhancementThe successful applicant will be appointed at an Experienced Design Engineer or Graduate level, with remuneration and responsibilities commensurate with qualifications, skills, and demonstrated capability.Why Join AME SystemsWork on complex harness systems across multiple regulated industriesExposure to up-to-date digital harness engineering tools and processesSupportive engineering environment with strong manufacturing integrationPrivately owned business with long-term focus on quality, reliability, and people
