We're looking for a motivated, solutions-focused professional to join our team working on critical transport infrastructure machinery - the ALF.
In this role you will be tasked with ensuring the Western Australian ALF device is maintained and operated to our testing requirements The Accelerated Loading Facility (ALF) is a mechanical/ hydraulic device used to simulate heavy vehicle trafficking on road pavement structures under controlled conditions.
It is BIG - approximately 26m long and 4m high.
It allows road materials to be tested and for their performance to be evaluated in a very short time span compared to test sites under normal traffic conditions.
This device is designed to operate on-site on particular roads in the network, or in a controlled environment within a large shed (50m x 20m).
This is a hands-on role for someone who can work independently, diagnose faults with confidence, and develop practical, effective solutions to keep essential equipment operating at peak performance.

About you This role would suit an enthusiastic, self-starting problem solver who takes pride in achieving the efficiency and safety outcomes for equipment in their care.




Good communication skills are essential in working alongside research scientists and engineers, technical staff and external service providers.
Ideally you will have knowledge of hydraulics and electrical systems, as well as hold a current forklift driver's licence.
This role requires the successful candidate to be on-site in WA with flexibility/availability to travel to assist with the ALF device based in Melbourne/Queensland on occasion.
This role will be suitable to a mechanical technician with minimum of 3 years heavy industrial experience who enjoy a mechanical challenging environment, as long as you are confident in your mechanical and technical problem-solving capabilities and have a solution driven approach.
The successful candidates must be proactive, take full accountability and truly be passionate about making a difference within the transportation industry.
Main duties and skills required for the role
Be familiar with heavy duty l machine components and be able to diagnose, repair and resolve normal faults Have sound experience in heavy industrial sector with advanced hydraulic, mechanical, electrical and electronic technologies Conduct scheduled maintenance, repairs and upgrades to the ALF machine Sound knowledge and experience in operating and maintaining heavy duty machines and be familiar with processes for disassembly and reassembly Maintain the site for safety, neatness and cleanliness, with a strong safety mindset (OH&S; certifications highly desirable) Excellent communication skills to provide advice on specific technical aspects of projects, liaising with suppliers, sub-contractors and internal/external stakeholders.
Apply solid mechanical aptitude to testing instrumentation Must have sound computer literacy, particularly capabilities in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Teams) Work under limited supervision as well as supervise sub-contractors where required Strong time management and project management skills, tracked record with delivering on time, within budget and with high quality.
