Community Safety & Crime Prevention Officer

The City of Canterbury Bankstown is one of the largest councils in NSW with one of the most culturally, socially and economically diverse communities.
We deliver 28 key services such as childcare, waste collection, parks maintenance, libraries, community facilities and aquatic centres to over 385,000 residents.
The role
Lead impactful community safety and crime prevention initiatives by building solid partnerships, engaging with the community, and delivering programs that create safer, more connected neighbourhoods.
Duties will include but not be limited to:
Lead community safety and crime prevention projects and events to educate the community and address local issues
Collaborate with Council, Police and key stakeholders to improve safety outcomes and assess development applications using Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles.
Represent Council at community safety meetings, networks and public speaking engagements.
Prepare grant applications to secure funding for community safety and crime prevention projects.
Manage the Community Safety Program budget and provide regular progress reports to leadership.
Support the delivery of community safety programs, including mentoring project staff and undertaking additional duties as required.
You will have
Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate field of expertise, preferably in the social sciences, criminology, health or humanities, or relevant experience
Class C Licence
Sound community development experience
Superior written and verbal communication skills
Proven negotiation and liaison skills
Demonstrated experience in conducting community consultations
Well developed project management skills
Experience in implementing community programs in partnership with government, community and business partners,



as well as other key stakeholders and individuals that achieve high levels of engagement
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Experience in preparing, submitting and administering funding applications
Computer skills including competent use of Microsoft products
Have a commitment to EEO, social justice, WH&S; and ethical practice and procedure
The salary range for this opportunity starts at $97,327 (Grade G, Step1) pro rata + 12% super.
Salary may be negotiable dependent on skills and experience.
