About the role
We are seeking an experienced Physical Security Specialist to support the secure, compliant operation of our clients Canberra facility.
This position is the on-site custodian of physical security controls, secure facility procedures, and day-to-day assurance activities across controlled areas.
You will work within an organisation that manages a sensitive environment and operates in alignment with Australian Government protective security expectations.
The role requires the consistent application of physical security controls, disciplined record-keeping, and calm incident management.
You will work autonomously day-to-day, while partnering closely with IT, Facilities, site leadership, and the wider ANZ Security team.
This role participates in an after-hours and weekend escalation from time to time.
Key responsibilities
Access and identity management
Issue, program, track, and recover access cards, keys, and other physical credentials
Administer access permissions in line with approved requests and least privilege principles
Deliver security inductions for current personnel, including access rules, portable devices, secure storage, and expected behaviours in controlled areas
Perform periodic access reconciliation and privileged access reviews, identify discrepancies, and track actions to closure
Monitor access activity for anomalies, including irregular after-hours access, and escalate appropriately




Security operations and monitoring
Operate and monitor access control and video management systems, including alarm monitoring and triage
Conduct daily system health checks, validate device functionality, and coordinate faults with vendors or support teams
Conduct routine checks of controlled areas, including secure area walkthroughs and checks of physical barriers and secure storage
Complete scheduled alarm tests, panic button checks, and other control verification activities
Act as first responder for site security incidents and alarms, including after-hours where required
Investigate, document, and escalate incidents through formal reporting channels, ensure logs and footage are retained
Compliance, assurance, and reporting
Maintain accurate visitor registers, escort records, key registers, and secure storage logs
Support internal and external audits and compliance assessments, ensuring evidence is accurate, retrievable, and fit for purpose
Maintain local control checklists, assurance records, and site security documentation (e.g. procedures, registers, training evidence)
Identify control gaps, procedural drift, and emerging risks, then recommend practical corrective actions aligned to protective security requirements
Provide monthly reporting to ANZ Security leadership, including key control health, incident themes, and outstanding risks
Stakeholder support and security initiatives
Escort and supervise contractors and visitors within controlled areas, ensuring compliance with site rules and supervision requirements
Partner with IT and Facilities to maintain secure-area readiness, including support for planned works, access changes, and control upgrades
Coordinate security support for scheduled site activities that impact security posture (e.g. shutdowns, generator testing, maintenance windows)
Support emergency management arrangements and act as a site emergency response contact (Fire Warden responsibilities as required)
Participate in readiness exercises, threat simulations, and validation activities
Contribute to security awareness activities and ANZ-wide uplift projects as required
Working environment
This is a high-security,



highly regulated environment where accuracy, vigilance, and procedural compliance are expected every day.
You will handle sensitive information and security-related records and must demonstrate sound judgment, discretion, and a consistent approach to documentation and the application of controls.
Skills, Experience and Requirements:
Hold a current and active NV1 Clearance
Hold a current ACT Security licence
Experience in handling sensitive government information
Experience working in a government cleared role with the Protective Security Framework.
Current First Aid Certificate (HLTAID011 and HLTAID010) and CPR Certificate (HLTAID009)
Experience in a similar role required
Demonstrate required IT knowledge of platforms and software
Certificate or Degree in Security (IT or Management) or Business advantageous
Ability to work autonomously and/or in a team
