Estimator – Manufacturing / Fabrication & Site-based Projects
Williams Metal Fabrications is a family-owned South Australian company servicing the Civil & Infrastructure, Oil & Gas, Marine, Mining, Defence, and Industrial sectors throughout Australia.
We specialise in the fabrication, supply and installation of structural steel and metalwork solutions and have built a reputation for quality, reliability, and innovation.
Due to continued growth, an exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Estimator to join our team.
This role combines both manufacturing/fabrication estimating and site-based project estimation, giving you exposure from tender stage through to delivery.
You will work closely with clients, consultants, suppliers, subcontractors, project managers, and internal production teams to prepare accurate estimates, secure new work, and support successful project outcomes.
The role offers a balance of office-based estimating and in office client engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare detailed estimates for the fabrication, supply, and installation of structural steel and metalwork.
Attend client meetings, site inspections, and pre-tender meetings.
Liaise with clients, consultants, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.
Assist the senior estimator with the tender process from initial enquiry through to submission.
Review drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
Identify cost risks, opportunities, and value-engineering options.
Analyse tender opportunities and forecast project resource requirements.
Follow up submitted tenders and negotiate outcomes where required.
Price contract variations and additional works.
Build and maintain strong client, supplier, and subcontractor relationships.
Assist in developing new business opportunities and expanding the company's client base.
Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with company Integrated Management System requirements,
relevant legislation, and industry standards.
Support project teams with estimating, costing, and commercial advice.
Skills & Experience
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Minimum 4 years' experience in estimating, preferably within structural steel, metal fabrication, construction, or related industries.
Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and tender documentation.
Experience preparing accurate fabrication and installation cost estimates.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.
Strong negotiation and commercial awareness.
Proven ability to manage multiple tenders and work to tight deadlines.
High level of attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Strong computer literacy and experience with estimating software.
Ability to work autonomously while contributing positively within a team environment.
Desire to grow client relationships and identify new business opportunities.
Professional, ethical, and customer-focused approach.
Innovative problem-solving skills and commercial thinking.
Desirable Qualifications
Certificate IV or Diploma in Building & Construction, Estimating, Project Management, Engineering, or a related discipline.
Experience conducting site measurements and inspections.
Knowledge of structural steel fabrication, site installation methodologies, and project delivery.
