Due to continued growth in wharf volumes, we are seeking a Cartage Coordinator to support the day-to-day planning and coordination of wharf cartage operations.
About the Role
Reporting to the Wharf Logistics Manager, the Cartage Coordinator assists with the planning, coordination and administration of container deliveries and collections across Melbourne wharves and customer sites.
The role works closely with fleet controllers, wharf time slotters, customers and internal departments to ensure container movements are completed safely, efficiently and on time.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with daily planning and coordination of wharf cartage operations
Coordinate container collections, deliveries and de-hires across Melbourne wharves and depots
Monitor fleet utilisation, wharf time slots,



customer requirements and operational priorities
Communicate with customers regarding delivery schedules, delays, container availability and job updates
Respond to operational changes, wharf delays and customer requests in a fast‐paced environment
Maintain accurate job records, operational notes and charging information in transport systems
Use systems including OneStop, CargoWise and internal job management software
Monitor free‐time compliance and assist in minimising demurrage and detention costs
Coordinate with Biosecurity, Warehousing and other departments where required
Support compliance with Chain of Responsibility, fatigue management and safety requirements
Escalate operational, safety or compliance issues promptly to management
Understanding of HVNL requirements, routing constraints and approved heavy vehicle routes when coordinating container movements
Skills and Experience
Essential
Experience in transport, logistics, wharf cartage or container operations
Experience using OneStop and CargoWise
Strong computer and administrative skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
Ability to manage competing priorities in a time‐sensitive environment
Understanding of wharf operations, free‐time requirements and container de‐hire processes
Commitment to workplace safety and Chain of Responsibility obligations
Desirable
Previous wharf cartage or container transport experience
Experience assisting fleet controllers or transport planners
Understanding of Biosecurity, customs and port documentation requirements
Knowledge of Melbourne wharf and depot operations
