ABOUT THE CLIENT
We are supporting a long established technology and telecommunications business in Kent that runs its own core network and builds its own software in house.
Their SaaS product is a geolocation and workforce safety platform used across construction, utilities, transport, aviation and the public sector.
It tracks people and assets on live operational sites and alerts workers when they move into hazardous areas.
The data path genuinely matters here.
This is safety relevant software, not reporting dashboards.
They have been going since ****, they are profitable and backed, and the engineering team is small enough that whoever joins shapes how things get built.
THE ROLE, GO DEVELOPER
This is a hands on engineering role on the platform side, reporting into the CTO and working alongside a mixed UK and offshore team.
You will work across the ingestion and processing layer, taking GNSS, GPS and RTK positioning data from tens of thousands of concurrent field devices, handling it over binary protocols, moving it through NATS and turning it into geospatial output that has to be accurate and has to be quick.
Over time you become the subject matter expert on the Go and distributed systems side of the business.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Build and maintain Go services across the platform
Work on IoT device integration and binary protocol parsing
Handle GNSS, GPS and RTK positioning data end to end
Design and support event driven flows using NATS
Build geospatial processing at volume, geofencing, spatial queries and location data
Work with actor model concurrency using the Ergo framework
Own deployment and infrastructure across AWS, Kubernetes and Terraform
Work directly with the CTO on architecture and technical direction
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
3 years plus writing Go in a commercial production setting
Solid grounding in distributed systems and concurrency
Experience with message brokers or event driven architecture, NATS, Kafka or RabbitMQ
Comfortable working close to the network layer rather than only HTTP and JSON
PostgreSQL and cloud infrastructure experience, ideally AWS
Right to work in the UK, no sponsorship available for this role
Able to be onsite in Kings Hill 2 days a week
DESIRABLE, NOT ESSENTIAL
IoT, telematics, fleet tracking or connected device platform background
GNSS, GPS or RTK positioning experience
Binary wire protocol work, TLV framing, checksums, endianness
Geospatial experience, PostGIS, geohashing, H3 or similar
Kubernetes and Terraform
Actor model concurrency, Ergo, Erlang or OTP
Experience mentoring or leading other engineers
They are genuinely open on this section.
If you have strong Go and distributed systems but have not touched positioning or geospatial, they will train you into it.
