This is an exciting opportunity to deliver a major new initiative for victims of crime.
The FAS is a landmark reform that will replace the judicially based Victims of Crime Assistance Tribunal with an administrative scheme that prioritises the needs of victims and supports their recovery from violent crime.
The FAS is highly anticipated by victims and stakeholders and represents a major leap forward in the
Victorian Government's response to victims of crime.
Established under the Victims of Crime (Financial Assistance Scheme) Act **** (the Act) the FAS will provide financial assistance through a easy and easy to navigate process that is fair, sensitive, and responsive to victims' needs.
It will acknowledge harm done and be trauma informed, inclusive and culturally safe.
What you will do
As Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS) Assessor, you will assess applications for financial assistance under the Victims of Crime (Financial Assistance Scheme) Act ****.
You will help deliver atrauma-informed,inclusiveandvictim-focusedservice that supports people through a difficult time.
You will:
assessapplications and approve payments using legislation, policy and established procedures
reviewevidence, prepare clear decisions and refercomplexmatters when needed
supportvictim recognition officers by providing guidance ontrauma-informedrecognition statements
workwith internal teams and partner organisations to support fair andtimelydecisions




maintainaccuraterecords while promotingculturally safeand victim-centred practices.
About you
A qualification and/or experience in community services, social work, criminology, psychology, victim services or family violence is highly desirable.
You should also have:
experiencesupporting people affected by crime, family violence or sexual assault
strongskills interpreting legislation, policy and evidence to make fair decisions
commitmenttotrauma-informed,culturally safeandinclusivepractice
clearcommunication,soundjudgement and the ability to managesensitiveconversations.
