Gandangara Local Aboriginal Land Council (GLALC) is seeking an expression of interest for a Senior Sites Officer, within the Heritage, Ecology and Land Management Unit.

Position Purpose
Gandangara is looking for an aspirant and passionate individual to fill the exciting position of Senior Sites Officer (SSO) – Heritage, Ecology and Land Management (HELM). The successful candidate must
either have the necessary skills or be willing to upskill
and serve the holistic requirements of Land Management, Heritage, and Culture. The SSO is primarily responsible for on ground eco-restoration and fire management but must be willing to learn cultural and heritage management.
This SSO will support on ground teams with fire, vegetation, fauna, water management. The SSO will be required to do surveys, gather data and report on ground works. The SSO will report to the Program and Project Manager of HELM. Eco-restoration includes flora and fauna rehabilitation. The collection of data for both areas will feed cultural preservation or Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) – which Gandangara wants to expand. The SSO position has room to move up within the organisation.
Other key responsibilities will include:
Engage with Aboriginal people and communities in cultural service activities and other related work of the GLALC
Gather and prepare written reports with detailed information for land management.
Respect for Aboriginal cultural connections, contemporary beliefs, values and practices together with cultural association and/or knowledge and understanding of the local Aboriginal people and community.
Learn about the management of Aboriginal sites/places and their associated cultural heritage values and report to Program and Project Manager of Heritage, Ecology and Land Management or stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to comply with project plans, ecological strategies as advised by the Program Manager,
support the Team Leader and restoration team, work alongside the team and train team members as per training program supplied by Program Manager
Demonstrated experience in using power tools, machinery, hand tools, technology (iPhone, i-Pad and relevant apps) and a current SafeWork NSW 'white card'
Must be willing to do a Working with Children and Police Check
Have a full driver's license and 4WD experience
Work 5 days per week onsite at Heathcote Ridge, and other sites within GLALCs jurisdiction
Undertake field surveys and inspections in nominated areas as directed.
Supply resources to the teams/s on ground
Learn to accurately and timely identify and assess Aboriginal objects and places that may affect projects of third-party organisations, as required.
Comply with all relevant procedures and policies of GLALC as well as any third-party organisation
Solid communication and negotiation skills
Demonstrated Team leader experience
Demonstrated experience in land management site works
Ability to work as part of a team
Willingness to study relevant disciplines for job requirements outside of work hours
Identified Aboriginal position:
The candidate must be of Aboriginal descent, as per section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act **** (NSW), given the roles focus on serving Aboriginal Communities
Qualifications and Requirements
Knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal Land Rights Act **** (NSW) and other relevant statutory and regulatory requirements
An understanding of the importance of:
Aboriginal Cultural preservation
The positive representation of First People and Culture
Tafe or University qualifications
Demonstrated ability to undertake site work
Experience in geographical information systems/databases/mapping tools
Demonstrated end to end reporting compliance
Possess a National Police Check
Current NSW employee Working with Children Check clearance in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act **** (NSW)
