Switch Steel Fabrication is seeking a skilled and experienced Boilermaker/
Metal Fabricator
to join our growing team in Hastings, Victoria. This is a
full-time position
based at our Hastings VIC **** facility. As a Metal Fabricator, you will play a crucial role in our operations, transforming raw materials into precision metal components and structures that meet our clients' specifications. This position is essential to maintaining our reputation for quality workmanship and on-time delivery in the welding and boilermaking industry.
Key responsibilities
Interpret and work from technical drawings, blueprints and specifications to fabricate metal components and structures
Operate and maintain various metal fabrication equipment.
Perform precision measuring and marking of materials to ensure accurate cuts and bends
Prepare materials for welding by cleaning, degreasing and positioning components
Assist welders and boilermakers by preparing assemblies and sub-assemblies as required
Conduct quality checks on completed fabrications to ensure they meet specified tolerances and standards
Maintain a safe and organised work setting, adhering to all health and safety protocols
Identify and report any defects or issues with materials or equipment to supervisors




Collaborate effectively with team members including welders, engineers and other fabrication staff
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and provide feedback on fabrication processes
What we're looking for
Trade qualification or recognised apprenticeship in metal fabrication, welding, or a related trade
Proven experience working as an architectural metal fabricator. Architectural doors highly regarded.
Competency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints
Sound knowledge of various metal fabrication techniques and equipment operation
Strong understanding of health and safety requirements specific to metal fabrication work
Ability to work with precision and attention to detail, maintaining high quality standards
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to identify issues with materials or processes
Strong communication and teamwork abilities, with the capacity to work collaboratively in a team environment
Physical fitness and capability to perform manual labour tasks and lift heavy materials
Reliability, punctuality and a commitment to workplace safety
