About the Role
You will be responsible for the support and skilled supervision of Occupational Therapy graduates and novice learners in the Mental Health and Addiction Medicine program. You will liaise with stakeholders to ensure all governance and clinical requirements of the program are met.

The classification for this position is Occupational Therapy Clinical Educator Grade 5 AJ15 ($147,394 per annum pro rata).

About Mental Health and Addiction Medicine
The program provides high-quality, recovery-oriented services for adults and older adults in the Cities of Yarra and Boroondara and parts of Darebin. A strengths model of recovery is embedded across all parts of the mental health service.

Local Work Environment
St. Vincent's Hospital Melbourne (SVHM) Mental Health & Wellbeing Program includes an adult area mental health and wellbeing service for the inner city areas of Yarra and Boroondara. The adult mental health service components are: the Footbridge Community Care Unit (CCU), the 44 bed Acute Inpatient Service (AIS) located on the St. Vincent's Hospital site, and two community mental health services (CMHS) at Hawthorn and East Melbourne (Clarendon CMHS). Community mental health services comprise Continuing Care (CCT), Mobile Support and Treatment (MST), Homeless Outreach (CHOPS), Perinatal Emotional Health and Public Housing Tenancy Support (STAY) services. The adult prevention and recovery care (PARC) service provides a short-term, intensive residential service with a recovery focus. A Consultation & Liaison Psychiatry Service is provided to the health service. NEXUS Dual Diagnosis Service, the Body Image and Eating Disorders Assessment and Treatment Service (BETRS) are regional services.



The Community Acute Response Team (CART) is comprised of the Triage and Crisis assessment and Treatment (CAT) service, Emergency Department Mental Health (EDMH) and Emergency Department Mental Health & AOD Hub, Extended Triage and Hospital Post-Suicidal Engagement (HOPE) services. State-wide services are the Victorian Dual Disability Service, the Victorian Transcultural Mental Health Unit and Dual Diagnosis Education and Training Unit. The AIS includes 5 beds designated as the Koori State-wide Inpatient Service and linked to the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service.
Position Purpose
The Occupational Therapy Educator Mental Health & Wellbeing is a role that has been established as part of a grant from the Victorian Department of Health following recommendations from the Royal Commission into Victoria's Mental Health System. The role has been funded by the Victorian Department of Health for a fixed period until December **** to support the implementation of the Statewide Early Careers Initiative.
The Occupational Therapy Educator is responsible for the support, professional supervision and management of Occupational Therapy graduates and novice learners in the Mental Health & Wellbeing and Addiction Medicine Program.
The incumbent will liaise with key stakeholders within operational teams and the Mental Health Education Team, to ensure all governance and clinical requirements of the program are met in accordance with the terms of the Victorian Allied Health Mental Health graduate program.
The program management encompasses direct learner support, marketing as required, bulk intake recruitment, supporting performance issues, learner health and wellbeing, planning, delivery and evaluation of formal study day programs, monitoring of program requirements and managing rotations of learners across the health service.
The role will also contribute to the delivery of education and support more broadly across the organisation within a multidisciplinary and interprofessional environment.
Position Duties
Provide strong and effective leadership in the area of Allied Health Clinical Education
Implement and maintain the Allied Health Mental Health Graduate Program in line with the Department of Health Model requirements and recommendations
Work collaboratively with the Occupational Therapy Discipline lead to further develop Allied Health/Occupational Therapy Clinical Education
Promote a culture of reflection, continuous learning, and workforce development.
Develop effective working relationships with operational managers and ensure that graduates are provided with the appropriate level of support
Participates and contributes to the MH Education Team meetings and initiatives
Promote the development, identification and implementation of evidence based practice
Promote participation in research and quality improvement activities
Display strong leadership of individual profession as part of working parties, committees and internal / external forums




Contribute to the ongoing partnership with Swinburne University Occupational Therapy Program
Contribute to the further development of the Occupational Therapy Profession across the mental health & wellbeing service
Demonstration of relevant family violence practice according to SVHM guidelines. This aligns with the Multi-Agency Risk assessment and Management (MARAM) Framework, the Family Violence Information Sharing Scheme (FVIS) and Child Information Sharing Scheme (CISS) legislative requirements and related SVHM guidelines.
Selection Criteria
Essential Registration, License or Qualification Requirements
Bachelor of Occupational Therapy or Master of Occupational Therapy (Prac)
Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
A current Driver's Licence.
Other Essential Requirements
Minimum of ten (10) years post-graduate experience and a strong interest in mental health and wellbeing
Highly developed clinical and leadership skills demonstrated in an interdisciplinary mental health & wellbeing service
Excellent qualities as a clinician and good communication skills with consumers and colleagues.
Demonstrated ability to participate in strategic and operational service planning.
Working knowledge of mental health care system and relevant legislation (e.g. MHWA)
Highly developed organisation, planning and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated ability to liaise with internal and external peers and stakeholders
Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and make decisions independently
Competency in using Microsoft Office programs and database systemsEvidence of ongoing education/professional development relevant to practice
Experience supervising Occupational TherapistsDemonstrated experience in clinical leadership of community-based clinical service provision
Demonstrated ability to provide training and education to clinicians of all levels and disciplines
Relevant Training and experience in providing and receiving clinical supervision and familiarity with the Allied Health clinical supervision framework
Ability to design, deliver and evaluate training programs and supervision in line with the recovery-oriented practice
Commitment to the values and health care philosophy of SVHM
Knowledge of and experience providing a comprehensive range of occupational therapy assessments and interventions for people with serious mental illness and complex needs, and their carers
Understanding of evidence based practice and models of occupational therapy (including the Model of Human Occupation) and their application in clinical practice
Knowledge of sensory modulation theory and practice
Knowledge of specific assessments including the MOHO Assessments and the Assessment of Motor and Process Skills (AMPS)
