People Business Partner at Karbon
About the role Karbon is seeking a People Business Partner to join our high-performing People team. This role focuses on supporting our Engineering and Product organizations, working closely with senior leadership to drive performance and provide strategic insights. The ideal candidate will be commercially astute, naturally curious, and proficient in both HR principles and AI tools that enhance HR practices.
Key Facts
Location: Sydney, NSW, Australia (hybrid, 3 days in-office near Town Hall station)
Engagement: Full-time
Team: People team, reporting to the VP of People. This role primarily supports the Chief Product Officer and Chief Technology Officer.
What you'll do
Proactively partner with the Chief Product Officer and Chief Technology Officer, deeply understanding their delivery models, team dynamics, and metrics to independently shape the people agenda.
Utilize AI tools and agentic workflows daily to uncover insights, automate routine tasks, and improve all deliverables, from data analysis and reporting to leader preparation and project execution.
Manage and report on intricate employment relations issues with clarity, while mentoring leaders to handle these situations independently.
Confidently manage modern award interpretation, contract adherence, and Work Health and Safety (WHS) compliance, identifying potential risks before they become problems.
Constructively challenge leaders, offering strong support while also pushing back on decisions that carry people or business risk, using data and AI-generated insights to support your stance.
Use people data and analytics, enhanced by AI,
to create compelling narratives that foster leadership alignment and deliver insights, not just reports.
Lead and execute specific value-adding HR projects to continuously improve the overall people function and offerings.
Act as a change advocate, guiding and supporting leaders through organizational changes as needed.
Collaborate closely with People Operations and the Talent Team to ensure a smooth employee experience across the entire lifecycle, and contribute to global People initiatives across Karbon's seven regions.
Requirements
4+ years of experience as an HR Advisor, People Business Partner, or HR Business Partner with a strong generalist HR background.
Essential prior experience in a SaaS or high-growth technology environment, with an understanding of how Engineering and Product organizations operate and what drives delivery and team health.
Practical knowledge of Australian employment law, Fair Work, modern award interpretation, and WHS.
A proactive partnering approach; you review data, attend business reviews, and provide people insights before leaders realize they need them.
Demonstrated ability to establish credibility at a senior level, engaging as a peer rather than a support function.
Proven capability to constructively challenge leaders, earning trust by pushing back when necessary, not just validating decisions.
Data fluency, capable of building influential narratives from people data, increasingly powered by AI, to inform strategic decisions.
Hands-on proficiency with AI tools and agentic workflows, actively using them daily to enhance output, automate repetitive tasks, and increase speed.
A project driver known for delivering results across multiple initiatives simultaneously without close supervision.
Experience coaching leaders through organizational design and workforce planning, and an interest in coaching leaders on the human implications of building AI-augmented teams.
Unquestionable integrity, high emotional intelligence, and personal maturity, handling sensitive situations with compassion and discretion.
Genuine curiosity about the future of work with AI and an eagerness to be at the forefront of this evolution.
