Position Summary
The Tiler is responsible for installing a variety of tiling finishes to internal and external surfaces across residential, commercial and maintenance projects.
The role involves preparing substrates, waterproofing wet areas, laying tiles to specification, and ensuring all work is completed safely, accurately and in accordance with project requirements and Australian standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Interpret construction drawings, specifications and work instructions to determine tile layouts, measurements and installation requirements.
Measure, mark and set out wall and floor surfaces to achieve accurate alignment, spacing and visual presentation of tiled finishes.
Prepare existing and new substrates by removing damaged materials, cleaning surfaces, levelling uneven areas and carrying out minor repairs where required.
Apply waterproofing membranes and associated systems to bathrooms, kitchens, laundries and other wet areas in accordance with relevant standards.
Mix and apply adhesives, bonding agents and setting compounds suitable for the project specifications and substrate conditions.
Install ceramic, porcelain, stone, slate, marble, glass and other tile products to walls, floors and external surfaces.
Cut, shape and finish tiles using specialised hand and power tools to accommodate edges, corners, fixtures,



penetrations and architectural features.
Check completed work to ensure consistent levels, straight lines, correct spacing and compliance with project quality standards.
Fill joints with grout, remove excess material and complete final cleaning and finishing of tiled surfaces.
Carry out repairs, replacement and restoration of damaged or worn tiling as part of maintenance and refurbishment projects.
Create decorative tiled features, patterned layouts and mosaic installations where required by project specifications.
Coordinate with supervisors, builders and other trades to ensure timely completion of works and minimise disruption to project schedules.
Maintain tools, equipment and work areas in a safe and serviceable condition.
Follow workplace health and safety requirements, company procedures and applicable building regulations at all times.
Assist with material estimation, stock control and ordering requirements for tiling projects.
Skills and Experience
Demonstrated at least 3 years of experience in residential, commercial and maintenance tiling works.
Sound knowledge of waterproofing systems, tile adhesives, grouts and installation techniques.
Ability to read and interpret plans, drawings and specifications.
Skilled in the use of tile-cutting machinery and hand tools.
Robust attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-trade construction team.
