Senior Cloud AWS Technical Lead Clerk Grade: 9/10 $129,464 - $142,665 plus superEmployment Type: Ongoing Full Time opportunity Location: Paramatta/ Mckell – hybrid 2 days per week in office About the team The Cloud Operations and Engineering team is responsible for the ongoing operation, support, and continuous improvement of enterprise AWS and Azure platforms that underpin critical government digital services.
The team ensures platform availability, security, and performance, while maintaining operational standards, governance, and compliance across a multi-agency shared environment.
About the Role The Senior Cloud AWS Technical Lead is a senior technical specialist position within the Cloud Operations team, reporting to the Cloud Product Manager.
The role is responsible for the operational leadership, reliability, and continuous improvement of AWS cloud platforms that underpin NSW Government digital services.
Working closely with the Cloud Product Manager, this role ensures cloud platforms are stable, secure, compliant, and aligned to product roadmaps and service outcomes.
The position acts as the senior technical authority for AWS operations, providing hands-on expertise, operational oversight, and guidance across complex, multi-account cloud environments.
This role suits an experienced cloud skilled who can operate at both a deep technical operational level, influencing outcomes without direct people management accountability.
Key Accountabilities Lead and coordinate the operation of enterprise AWS platforms, ensuring high availability, performance, resilience, and effective incident management Provide senior technical leadership, setting standards and ensuring alignment between platform operations, architecture, and product strategy Ensure platforms meet security, risk, and compliance obligations,
embedding controls and supporting audits and remediation activities Drive automation, continuous improvement, and cost optimisation initiatives to enhance platform reliability, efficiency, and maturity Build and maintain strong stakeholder and vendor relationships, providing expert advice while supporting capability uplift through mentoring and knowledge sharing Essential Requirements Extensive experience operating enterprise-scale AWS environments in production.
Strong hands-on expertise with AWS services including VPC, EC2, IAM, RDS, S3, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Lambda, ECS/EKS.
Demonstrated experience in cloud operations, incident management, and platform reliability.Proven experience implementing Infrastructure as Code (e.g. CloudFormation, Terraform).
Ability to work effectively with product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders.Experience working in complex, regulated, or large enterprise environments.
Desirable Requirements Experience with multi-account AWS landing zone architectures.
Familiarity with NSW Government or Australian Government security and cloud frameworks.
Knowledge of FinOps and cloud cost optimisation practices.
AWS Professional-level certification and/or ITIL certification.
