About the Role:
The Transport Engineer will play a key role in supporting the
delivery of a safe, efficient and sustainable transport network
across the Townsville region, including roads, pathways and
cycleways.
Working collaboratively with internal stakeholders, the
Townsville community and external agencies, the position
contributes to Council's strategic vision of Growing Townsville
through the provision of professional engineering advice, transport
investigations and evidence-based recommendations.
The role
supports a customer-focused and outcomes-driven culture, delivering
innovative solutions that enhance transport infrastructure while
aligning with Council's Corporate Plan, community expectations and
organisational values.
Reporting to the Senior Transport Engineer, the Transport
Engineer undertakes transport infrastructure investigations,
manages and assesses heavy vehicle applications and approved
routes, and provides technical advice on transport-related matters.
The position assists in the development of concept designs,
preliminary cost estimates and the review of detailed designs for
transport improvement projects, while contributing to the
maintenance of transport standards, policies and procedures.
Through exemplary safety practices, personal accountability and a
commitment to service excellence, the role supports the delivery of
high-quality transport outcomes that improve connectivity, safety
and accessibility for the Townsville community.
About you:
Degree in Engineering (Civil) with at least four years'
experience relevant to transport infrastructure design or
management.
Demonstrated experience role modelling a positive safety
culture and adherence to the Health Safety Management Systems
through visible leadership and exercising due diligence and
management of compliance and legislative obligations.
Develop and recommend appropriate outcomes/responses to
transport infrastructure requests.
Understanding of transport and traffic legislation along
with the relevant standards, manuals and guidelines.
Ability to collaborate with engineers and other
stakeholders to provide advice or seek direction in relation to
transport infrastructure matters.
Well-developed oral and written communication skills to
enable effective communication of acceptable and suitable
outcomes with stakeholders.
Knowledge of heavy vehicle types and legislation is
desirable.
Design experience with Autocad is desirable.
Current Queensland "C" class driver's licence.

* The Council
