What we do
Think Mental Health (formerly Think Psychology Solutions) is a private organisation founded in **** by two local clinical psychologists, Vanessa Hamilton and Jason McCrae.
We deliver both a private mental health clinic (Think Clinic) and a range of community sector mental health services, supported by government funding.
Think Mental Health delivers both the territory-wide phone intake service for Head to Health and Canberra Medicare Mental Health Centre.
Medicare Mental Health Centre's are nation-wide Adult Mental Health service is supported by funding from the Capital Health Network (CHN) through the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing.
Positional Purpose
The Intake team is responsible for both the phone and walk in sides of the service.
The team provides both phone and in-person support, intake assessments and referrals of consumers presenting with mental health needs.
The team is responsible for supporting individuals presenting in distress, including escalating to tertiary care as necessary.
Primarily the position is within the Medicare Mental Health Centre Canberra.
However, you may be asked to work in the Tuggeranong Centre or the Phone Service at times.
This position would suit an experienced Mental Health clinician, as well as a highly motivated early career clinician (e.g. social worker, counsellor, MH registered nurse).
Positional Responsibilities
Client services:
1. Provision of intake services using the Commonwealth developed standardised needs assessment tool (IAR: Initial Assessment and Referral), via telephone, online and face-to-face.
2. Provision of support, information, and advice to consumers and those involved with the care of individuals in psychological distress.

3. Provision of service navigation and warm referral pathways to support consumers and carers/family members to connect with appropriate care options in our region
Administrative services:
1. Maintain all documentation as required by the operational guidelines.
2. Assist in the development and documentation of referral pathways.
3. Data entry as required by the operational guidelines.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience
1. Completion of (or working towards) appropriate training/qualification, along with work experiences within the mental health sector.
Qualifications considered include; Psychology, Social Work, Counsellor, RN/EN or similar.
2. Sound discipline knowledge, including the underlying principles of mental health recovery support gained through experience and/or training
3. Experience in working with distressed consumers and those in crisis.
4. Positive attitude and genuine interest in mental health care.
5. Relevant Working with Vulnerable Peoples (and NDIS)
card for ACT & NSW or ability to obtain one.
6. National Police Check certificate or able to obtain one.
Desirable Criteria
1. Experience in assessment of mental health issues and knowledge of mental health services in the ACT region.
2. Experience in provision of short-term counselling support and/or crisis support for those struggling with their mental health.
Work Hours
This position may be offered on either a full-time or part-time basis.
Full time hours comprise 37.5 hours per week, worked as five 7.5-hour days.
Part-time arrangements are flexible, from a minimum of 2 days per week up to full-time hours.
Standard working hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, including a one‐hour lunch break.
The Centre has extended opening hours, meaning some days it is open standard business hours (8:30am-5:00pm) and some days it's open extended hours (until 7:00pm).
Ability to work extended hours is a requirement of this position.
