The city of Griffith is one of Australia's most vibrant cosmopolitan centres, home to 27,000 residents from more than sixty nationalities. Griffith's main street, Banna Avenue, offers boutiques, restaurants, galleries and cafés. The town is known for its food, wine, culture, family, community and annual festivals.

It is located 450 km north of Melbourne, 570 km southwest of Sydney and 350 km west of Canberra and is serviced by air from Sydney.

Hospital Overview

/n

Griffith Base Hospital is a 119‐bed facility that supports approximately 19,500 emergency presentations, 2,500 operations and 600 births annually.



The hospital offers a range of specialist services including emergency medicine, a level‐four intensive care unit, general medicine, general surgery, paediatric medicine, oncology, obstetrics and gynaecology, respiratory medicine, renal dialysis, Hospital in the Home and rehabilitation.

The facility opened in June 2025.

Medical Careers Pathways

/n

Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Pathway

/n

/n

- Facilitated rotations including mandatory hospital rotations required for general registration, RACGP and ACRRM GP training.

/n

- Locally provided and facilitated education and development to support continued clinical learning.

/n/n

Career Medical Officer (CMO) Pathway

/n

/n

- Available to doctors awaiting a training position with a GP College training pathway or doctors intending to work as CMOs.

/n

- First year comprises Emergency Medicine, with essential training requirements including the Emergency Medicine Certificate (ACEM), DETECT, ALS1 and Emergency Management of Severe Trauma.

/n/n

GP Pathway

/n

/n

- Provides registrars with the required hospital and advanced procedural training experience to work towards fellowship with the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine and or the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.

/n

- Doctors can apply to undertake GP training under AGPT, ACRRM Independent Pathway, the Remote Vocational Training Scheme (RVTS) or RACGP Practice Eligible Pathway.

/n/n

Advanced Skills Pathway

/n

/n

- Available for ACRRM and RACGP Registrars undertaking a Fellowship in Advanced Rural General Practice (FARGP) qualification.

/n

- Comprises 12 months advanced specialised training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Anaesthesia,



Paediatrics, Adult Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine or Surgery (24 months for ACRRM).

What You'll Be Doing

/n

Provide first‐line medical care to patients presenting to the hospital, including assessment, investigation, treatment and referral for ongoing non‐inpatient care or, on consultation with consultant specialists, admission/transfer for inpatient care and discharge of patients.

You agree to support core NSW public sector values of cultural diversity, equity and ethical practice, and a healthy, safe and fair workplace by addressing these core values in training courses and the induction process.

- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia.

/n

- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a supervised workplace.

/n

- Ability to work effectively as part of a multi‐disciplinary team with an understanding of the roles of the doctor and other members of the healthcare team.

/n

- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, family members and others.

/n

- Good organisational and time‐management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment.

/n

- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.

/n

- Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self‐education.

/n/n
