About the Role
The Hatchery Driver is responsible for the safe, timely, and efficient collection of hatching eggs from breeder farms and the delivery of day-old chicks from the Hatchery to broiler farms. This role plays a vital part in supporting the hatchery supply chain while ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare, biosecurity, safety, and quality are maintained throughout all transport activities.
As a Hatchery Driver, you will be responsible for the safe transportation of hatching eggs from breeder farms to the hatchery and the delivery of day-old chicks from the hatchery to broiler farms. This role is essential in supporting the continuity of hatchery and farming operations through reliable and efficient transport services.
The position involves a combination of driving and physical handling activities,
with approximately 80% driving and 20% loading and unloading duties .
Key Responsibilities
- Collecting hatching eggs from breeder farms and delivering them safely to the hatchery.
- Loading eggs from farm trolleys onto company vehicles and unloading them at the hatchery.
- Loading and unloading day-old chicks for delivery to broiler farms.
- Ensuring the safe handling and transportation of eggs and chicks at all times.
- Maintaining high standards of animal welfare and biosecurity during all transport activities.
- Completing deliveries accurately and within required timeframes.
- Monitoring pallet transfers and exchanges and ensuring accurate counts are recorded.
- Maintaining accurate transport and delivery documentation.
- Reporting any damages, incidents, hazards, or potential risks promptly.
- Ensuring company vehicles are kept clean, tidy, and fit for purpose.
- Operating vehicles safely and in accordance with road transport legislation and company procedures.
- Complying with fatigue management requirements and maintaining all required licences and accreditations.

Safety, quality, and animal welfare are critical to this role. You will be required to comply with all company policies and legislative requirements, including:
- Workplace Health and Safety procedures
- Animal Welfare standards
- Biosecurity requirements
- Fatigue Management guidelines
- Chain of Responsibility (CoR) obligations
- Vehicle inspection and maintenance requirements
- Food Safety and Quality standards where applicable

About You
You are a reliable and safety focused driver who is confident operating heavy vehicles in a busy site environment. You are practical, calm under pressure and able to work well with warehouse, dispatch and production teams.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Current HC licence, mandatory
- Previous experience driving HC trucks
- Strong reversing and vehicle positioning skills
- Forklift licence, preferred
- Good understanding of load restraint, fatigue management and Chain of Responsibility requirements
- Strong commitment to workplace safety, food safety and compliance
- Good communication skills and the ability to follow instructions accurately
- Ability to work in a fast paced operational environment
- A positive attitude and willingness to support the broader Warehouse team when required

- These are full time roles based at our East Bendigo Hatchery.
