What you’ll do
- Design and oversee the implementation of scalable content pipelines across various disciplines, including environments, characters, animations, vehicles, materials, visual effects, and cinematics.
- Develop and deploy custom tools, scripts, and workflows aimed at improving efficiency, reducing errors, and standardizing the integration of assets.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to enhance the capabilities of Unreal Engine 5's editor and optimize asset processing workflows.
- Work closely with content creators to ensure that the established pipelines are user-friendly and meet production needs effectively.
- Set and promote best practices for asset versioning, content validation, and automated build processes to streamline production.
- Lead and mentor your team, establishing high standards for quality and productivity, while providing ongoing feedback to support their growth and development.
- Coordinate with production teams to prioritize development tasks, manage schedules, and allocate resources effectively.
- Collaborate with outsourcing partners to define pipeline specifications and ensure seamless integration of external content into the production workflow.
Requirements
- Extensive experience in the gaming industry, having played a significant role in at least two shipped AAA titles.
- Proven track record as a Senior or Lead Technical Artist, particularly with a focus on tools and pipelines.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Unreal Engine 5's editor, including its content pipeline, Blueprints, and asset workflows.
- Proficient in scripting or programming languages such as Python, C++, or C#, with a strong emphasis on framework design and implementation.
- Solid understanding of version control systems like Perforce, as well as build and automation tools such as Jenkins, Unreal Build Tools, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Exceptional problem‑solving skills, along with strong communication and leadership abilities.
Nice to have
- Experience with automated content validation and performance profiling tools to ensure high-quality outputs.
- Familiarity with large-scale open-world production pipelines in Unreal Engine 5, including features like World Partition, data layers, and Hierarchical Level of Detail (HLODs).
- Background in integrating procedural workflows using tools such as Houdini and Substance Designer.
- Knowledge of shader and material pipeline integration and optimization techniques.
- Experience managing outsourcing efforts and supporting pipelines across distributed teams for effective collaboration.
