- Trusted HR partner to leaders across a purpose-led organisation
- Lead performance, leadership and organisational change initiatives
- Join a world-class research team improving lives through innovation

People are at the heart of every breakthrough.

The Centre for Eye Research Australia (CERA) is an internationally recognised leader in eye research, dedicated to preventing vision loss and blindness through world-class research, innovation and clinical translation. Working alongside Cerulea Clinical Trials, its wholly owned not for profit clinical trials subsidiary, they translate research discoveries into new treatments, accelerating the journey from laboratory to patient care.

As the organisation continues to grow and evolve, an exciting prospect exists for an experienced Human Resources Business Partner to help strengthen leadership capability, build trusted relationships across the organisation, and drive best-practice people initiatives.

About the Role

You will be seen as a trusted advisor to leaders, many of whom are leading researchers and, clinicians who are experts in their fields. You'll work closely with managers and supervisors to build confidence, capability and consistency in how they lead teams, manage performance and navigate people challenges.

With approximately 130 employees, as well as students, honorary appointments and a diverse workforce, you'll play a key role in helping leaders understand what good people management looks like, while supporting organisational initiatives that improve the employee experience.

This is a highly people-focused role, suited to someone who enjoys working directly with leaders and employees to translate HR projects, frameworks and initiatives into practical workplace outcomes. You will work collaboratively with the Project Lead and other internal stakeholders on broader people-related projects, with a particular focus on communication, engagement, training,

rollout and adoption across the organisation.

A varied role, one day you may be leading the implementation of a new performance management framework, reviewing policies or delivering leadership training. The next, you may be coaching a manager through a challenging conversation, preparing employment documentation or supporting a workplace wellbeing initiative.

Key Priorities

- Partner with leaders to build management and people leadership capability
- Roll out and embed a new performance management framework across the organisation
- Design and facilitate training, workshops and capability-building programs
- Coach managers through employee relations and performance matters
- Support organisational change and workforce planning initiatives
- Provide practical advice on people risks and help managers make informed decisions
- Strengthen processes and reporting
- Support OHS, wellbeing and a positive workplace culture
- Build credibility and trust across the organisation by taking a collaborative, respectful and pragmatic approach

About You

You are an experienced HR generalist who understands that sustainable change doesn't happen overnight.

You know how to bring people on the journey, influence without authority, and build trust with leaders who may not always see HR as a strategic partner. You take the time to understand the context, explain risks clearly, and help managers work through solutions rather than simply telling them what to do.

You are equally comfortable discussing workforce strategy with senior leaders as you are rolling up your sleeves to manage operational HR tasks.

Most importantly, you genuinely care about people and believe that strong leadership, respect and good employment practices create better workplaces.

You Will Bring

- Demonstrated experience in a Human Resources Business Partner or senior HR advisory role
- Strong generalist HR capability across the employee lifecycle
- Experience coaching and developing managers with varying levels of leadership capability
- A practical understanding of performance management, employee relations and organisational development
- Experience delivering training, workshops and leadership development initiatives
- Strong process improvement skills
- The ability to work collaboratively with project, systems and operational stakeholders
- Excellent relationship-building, influencing and communication skills
- A pragmatic, solutions-focused and empathetic approach
- The confidence to challenge constructively while maintaining trusted relationships

Why Join CERA?

This is a rare opportunity to join a purpose-driven organisation where your work will have a genuine impact on both people and outcomes.

You will work with passionate researchers, clinicians and specialists who are committed to improving lives through innovation and discovery. In return, you will enjoy the opportunity to shape people practices, influence organisational culture and help leaders become more effective people managers in an organisation making a meaningful difference.
