Job Description
A carpenter is a skilled tradesperson who constructs, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures made of wood, plywood, and wallboard.
They are integral to the building and renovation of residential, commercial, and industrial
structures. Carpenters must read blueprints, follow building plans, and adhere to local
building codes to ensure the safe and effective completion of their projects. Working with
various tools and materials, they create frameworks, install doors, windows, and other essential
structural elements. Responsibilities ? Construct and repair building frameworks, including walls,
floors, and doorframes. ? Install structures and fixtures such as windows, doors, and moulding.
? Measure, cut, and shape wood, plastic, and other materials. ? Interpret and follow blueprints, building plans, and technical drawings.
? Inspect and replace damaged framework or other structures and fixtures. ? Follow safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment.
? Collaborate with other construction professionals, such as electricians and plumbers.
Main Tasks ? Reading and interpreting blueprints and other technical drawings.
? Measuring, cutting, and shaping wood or other materials. ? Assembling and fitting building frameworks. ? Installing fixtures like windows,
doors, and cabinets.
? Operating hand tools and power tools safely and efficiently. ? Inspecting structures to ensure they are built to code and specification.
? Repairing and replacing damaged structures or fixtures. Relevant Qualifications Carpenters typically require a combination of formal education,
