The National Archives of Australia’s (NAA’s) Preservation section requires an Audiovisual Digitisation Specialist to contribute to the preservation of, and access to, the NAA’s audio and video collection. The role requires someone with attention to detail, knowledge of historical audio and video formats and experience with preservation and digital archiving. Further requirements include the ability to manage a small technical team and the ability to provide technical assistance as required.

As an Audiovisual Digitisation Manager at the NAA, you will provide oversight for a variety of preservation activities including assessment, handling and digitisation of fragile historic audio and video items,



and ingest of digitised items and files from in house and outsourcing digitisation projects. You will be required to liaise with clients and stakeholders and provide advice on audio-visual digitisation as required.

As well as ongoing responsibility for rare and fragile material you will be required to provide training in complex audio preservation and restoration activities and assist with development of procedures pertaining to the preservation of the audio collection.

A working knowledge of media asset management systems/databases would assist you to provide better service to colleagues and internal clients and a knowledge and experience in the handling and digitising of a variety of different audio archival formats is desirable. A working knowledge of a variety of audio software platforms, tools, and monitoring equipment would be an advantage.
