As we continue to grow, we're looking for an experienced Project Accountant with a background in construction, property development or a project-based contracting workplace to join our Finance team.
About the Role
Reporting to the Senior Accountants / Head of Finance, you'll play a key role in the financial management of a portfolio of concurrent construction projects.
Partnering closely with Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors and Site Managers, you'll provide accurate financial reporting, cost control and commercial insights that support informed decision-making throughout the project lifecycle—from contract award through to practical completion.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced construction environment and enjoys managing multiple projects at different stages of delivery.
What You'll Be Doing
- Prepare monthly project cost reports, Forecast Final Cost (FFC) updates and budget-to-actual variance analysis.
- Maintain project cost-to-complete models across multiple projects.
- Prepare Work in Progress (WIP) reporting and support AASB 15 percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
- Review subcontractor progress claims, variations, retentions and committed costs.
- Monitor project cashflow and support construction funding requirements.
- Raise progress claims and client invoices in line with contractual milestones.
- Partner with Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors and Site Managers to provide commercial financial support.
- Support project close-out, final reconciliations, audits and compliance reporting.
- Drive continuous improvement across project accounting processes and systems.
About You
You’ll bring:
- Degree qualifications in Accounting, Commerce or Finance.
- CA or CPA qualified (or actively working towards completion).
- 3–6 years' accounting experience within the construction, property development, engineering or infrastructure sectors.
- Demonstrated experience in project accounting within a construction or contracting environment.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Work in Progress (WIP)
- AASB 15 revenue recognition
- Project costing and Forecast Final Cost (FFC)
- Budgeting and forecasting
- Subcontractor progress claims, variations and retentions
- Experience using ERP/job costing systems (Jobpac or similar preferred).
- Advanced Excel skills.
To be considered for this role, you must have previous accounting experience within the construction, property development, engineering or infrastructure sectors. Applications without relevant industry experience will not be considered.
Why Join Versatile Group?
- Be part of one of Australia's fastest-growing integrated property and construction businesses.
- Work across a diverse portfolio of landmark residential, commercial, defence and education projects.
- Partner directly with operational leaders and influence project outcomes.
- Join a collaborative, high-performing finance team with genuine opportunities for career growth.
- Build your career in a business where you'll have visibility, ownership and the opportunity to make a real impact.
