About This Opportunity

This role focuses on developing biodegradable polymers and sustainable packaging solutions within the Solving Plastic Waste Cooperative Research Centre.

Responsibilities

Academic LevelA

- Produce high‑quality research outputs, contribute to competitive funding applications, and collaborate on multidisciplinary projects.
- Develop an emerging research profile and support translation and commercialization of research.
- Supervise and develop Honours and Higher Degree by Research students, mentor, and provide feedback.
- Manage research staff, foster a positive team culture, and resolve workplace issues.
- Demonstrate leadership through collaboration, active participation, and support of UQ values.
- Contribute to academic and administrative activities, and build partnerships with industry, government, and community.

Academic LevelB

- Lead research programs, take a leading role in publications and secure and manage research funding.
- Supervise HDR students, facilitate engagement and development, and assume greater staff management and leadership roles.




- Manage service and administrative responsibilities, actively build external partnerships, and engage with industry.
- Show leadership of self and others, mentor, and strengthen external engagement activities.

Qualifications

Academic LevelA

- Completion of a PhD in Engineering with experience in Materials Engineering.
- Experience in industry‑engaged research and delivering research outcomes from concept to industrial implementation.
- Reputational publications in refereed journals and conferences.
- Successful securing and management of external research funding.
- Record of supervising Honours and research Higher Degree students.
- Experience in internal service roles and active external contributions.

Academic LevelB

- Growing research profile and strong publication record in refereed journals and conferences.
- Evidence of successful research funding acquisition and management.
- Experience in supervising HDR students and performing internal service roles with external engagement.
