Grade 2 Occupational Therapist, Neurotrauma (Neurosurgery, Stroke, Trauma)
Permanent full‑time role (80 hours per fortnight + monthly ADO). The role includes 0.8 EFT across weekdays and 0.2 EFT across weekends, ideally working a Sunday‑Thursday roster.
Job Overview
The Occupational Therapist – Grade 2 is responsible for the provision of Occupational Therapy Services within a neurotrauma clinical caseload appropriate to their level of experience and competency. At Grade 2 level, clinicians display autonomy of practice and contribute strongly to the interdisciplinary team. It is expected that Grade 2 clinicians will provide high‑quality inpatient assessment and intervention to maximise functional independence, safety and quality of life for patients with neurological, stroke, trauma and orthopaedic conditions. This is achieved through a commitment to patient‑centred care, team-oriented practice and evidence‑based knowledge.
The Occupational Therapy Department operates across The Alfred, Caulfield and Sandringham Hospitals, providing a range of clinical services aligned with strategic goals and operational performance targets.
Responsibilities
- Provide high‑quality inpatient assessment and intervention for neurotrauma, neurosurgery, stroke and orthopaedic patients.
- Demonstrate autonomy of practice while collaborating closely with an interdisciplinary team.
- Lead teaching, training and quality improvement activities across the Occupational Therapy Service.
- Supervise and mentor junior Occupational Therapy staff, Allied Health Assistants and/or undergraduate students.
- Represent Allied Health or Occupational Therapy at internal and external forums as directed by the Allied Health Manager – Occupational Therapy.
- Evaluate and modify service delivery in accordance with evidence‑based practice.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Applied Science (OT), Bachelor of Occupational Therapy, Master of Occupational Therapy practice or recognised equivalent.
- Full registration held with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (AHPRA).
- Member of OT Australia (or eligibility for membership).
- Current Australian driver’s licence (unrestricted).
- Current Working with Children’s Check.
- Minimum three years of clinical experience in occupational therapy with demonstrated best practice in patient assessment and intervention.
- Clinical experience and knowledge of client‑centred occupational service delivery in an acute setting; clinical skills in neurotrauma, neurosurgery and stroke highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate and modify service delivery in accordance with evidence‑based practice.
- Demonstrated skills in clinical supervision and teaching.
- Demonstrated understanding and commitment to the principles of continuous quality improvement.
- Well‑developed communication and interpersonal skills to promote teamwork and the ability to relate effectively to people at all levels of the organisation.
- Demonstrated participation in professional development relevant to the position.
- Established skills in organisation, planning and priority setting.
