Overview
If you have a passion for animal welfare and a love for the open road, join RSPCA Qld as a driver volunteer to transport animals and assist with donations. You will operate within our vehicle fleet during shifts to support animal welfare and fundraising efforts. Drivers must have an open licence.
Responsibilities
- Safely transport animals locally and regionally between campuses, rehoming centres, vet surgeries, and care facilities.
- Collect donated food and assist with fundraising activities as part of your duties.
- Use an RSPCA vehicle provided during your shift and follow all safety and animal-handling procedures.
- Coordinate with RSPCA staff and volunteers to ensure smooth operations during trips.
Qualifications & Skills
- Clean, manual open driver’s licence.
- Experience driving a large van and/or towing a trailer is preferred.
- Strong communication skills for coordinating with staff and volunteers.
- Physically capable of lifting up to 10 kg and comfortable with basic animal handling to ensure stress-free transport.
- Ability to drive safely in varying traffic and weather conditions.
Volunteer Commitment & Perks
- Regular shifts with on-demand availability for occasional on‑call driving; flexibility is essential and a minimum commitment of one shift per week is preferred.
- Comprehensive orientation and animal handling training provided for volunteers with no prior experience.
- Gain a deeper understanding of RSPCA operations and contribute to animal welfare and fundraising efforts.
Other Information
Before handling animals, ensure you have an up-to-date tetanus vaccination. This is a safety requirement.
