About the role

Exciting opportunity for a Clinical Research Fellow with an interest in Colorectal Surgery to join Eastern Health. This onsite position is partially sponsored by Medtronic. The primary role of the Clinical Research Fellow is to facilitate the translation of research concepts into clinical studies that inform and enhance clinical practice. The role will include:

- Developing new research goals and ideas in conjunction with the supervisor, contribute to ongoing research projects and the supervision of junior medical staff with an interest in research
- Assisting with 3 to 4 lists per week on a rostered basis (expected supplementary income of more than $50,000)
- Participating in 1x operating list and 1x outpatient per a month and on call general surgery (consult) at Angliss Hospital and 1x operating list per month at Blackburn Hospital
- Training in anorectal physiology and anorectal ultrasound as part of the pelvic floor clinic on a fortnightly basis (3.5 hours)
- Sharing of clinical duties with the training Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand Clinical Fellow.
- 1 in 3 weekend rounds
- On call for colorectal emergencies 1 in 3 with the clinical fellow
- Endoscopy lists at Box Hill and Maroondah Hospitals
- 4 public operating lists per fortnight at Box Hill Hospital per fortnight

- Conducting and organising junior medical staff training in basic surgical skills, laparoscopy and endoscopy

About you

To be successful in this role you will possess:

- Eligibility for, or current medical registration in Australia
- FRACS or an equivalent specialist qualification
- A demonstrated interest in colorectal surgery and surgical education




- A willingness to undertake and contribute to research projects within the unit

Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment.

Those that are offered and/or start between January and April do not require an up to date vaccination for Influenza to progress providing they are aware of its requirement later in the year. Those that are offered and/or start between May and December require the up to date Influenza vaccination prior to offer.
