Dirt & Diesel Contracting is seeking a Plant Mechanic to join our team in Gunnedah, NSW. This is a full-time position based in office, where you will play a critical role in maintaining and servicing the heavy plant and equipment. you will be responsible for ensuring that all machinery operates at peak efficiency, minimising downtime and supporting the productivity and safety of our operations across the site.
What you'll be doing
Performing routine maintenance and servicing on heavy plant equipment, including excavators, dozers, loaders, haul trucks and ancillary equipment
Diagnosing mechanical faults and defects using diagnostic equipment and conducting repairs to minimise equipment downtime
Replacing worn components such as engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems and undercarriage parts
Conducting pre-start and post-operation inspections of plant and equipment to identify potential issues before they become critical
Maintaining detailed records of all maintenance work completed, spare parts used and equipment service histories
Operating plant and equipment for testing and repositioning purposes as required
Collaborating with site supervisors and other team members to prioritise maintenance tasks and ensure compliance with operational requirements
Adhering to all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment
Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying equipment reliability issues and recommending solutions
What we’re looking for
A COP in mobile plant. hands-on experience working as a mechanic in the mining, construction or related heavy industry
Demonstrated experience maintaining and repairing heavy mobile plant equipment, including excavators, haul trucks and earthmoving machinery
Sound knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems commonly found on mining and construction plant
Proficiency in the use of mechanical tools, diagnostic equipment and workshop technology
A valid driver's licence and willingness to operate plant and equipment as required
Excellent attention to detail and strong mechanical aptitude
The ability to work independently and take responsibility for your assigned tasks, whilst contributing positively to a team environment
Strong communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively with supervisors, operators and colleagues
Commitment to safety and compliance with all workplace health and safety requirements
