We're looking for a lawyer with strong advisory skills who can provide practical and solutions-focused legal advice and communicate complex legal and regulatory issues in a clear and accessible way. Ideally, you'll have experience in an in-house, government, regulatory, ombudsman or dispute resolution environment, along with strong written communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Experience in the energy or water sectors would be highly regarded, but it's not essential. What matters most is that you're a trusted advisor who can build strong relationships, navigate complexity and deliver practical, solutions-focused advice that supports sound decision-making.
We're open to appointing at either Legal Counsel or Senior Legal Counsel level. Typically, candidates at Legal Counsel level will bring around 3-5 years' post-admission experience, while Senior Legal Counsel candidates will generally have 6-7+ years' post-admission experience.

Your new role and team
The Operational Excellence team supports EWOV to deliver fair, consistent and high-quality outcomes by strengthening the systems, practices and specialist expertise that enable effective complaint handling across the organisation. Reporting to the Head of Legal, you'll join a collaborative team focused on supporting sound decision-making, continuous improvement and organisational excellence.
As our Legal Counsel, you'll act as a trusted advisor across EWOV, providing legal advice on a broad range of matters. From interpreting legislation, regulatory instruments and industry codes to advising on privacy, legal risk and jurisdictional issues, you'll help ensure EWOV continues to deliver fair, independent and high-quality outcomes for Victorian energy and water consumers.
Working closely with stakeholders across the organisation, you'll translate complex legal, regulatory and policy issues into practical and accessible guidance, helping teams navigate challenges and make confident decisions. You'll also contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, support capability uplift through training and guidance, and help strengthen the frameworks, processes and practices that underpin EWOV's complaint handling model.

Whatyou’llbring
Approximately 3-5 years' post-admission experience for Legal Counsel level, or 6-7 years' post-admission experience for Senior Legal Counsel level
Experience providing high-quality legal advice in a practical and commercially focused way
Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills
Excellent written communication and the ability to simplify complex legal and regulatory concepts
Sound judgement, analytical thinking and a solutions-focused mindset
Experience in an in-house, government, regulatory, ombudsman or dispute resolution environment will be highly regarded
Knowledge of, or experience in, the energy or water sectors would be beneficial
